UTSA invites community to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

UTSA invites community to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

SEPTEMBER 7, 2023 — The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) is proud to announce a vibrant and culturally enriching lineup of programs in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, which is recognized nationally from September 15 to October 15. This annual celebration pays tribute to the rich history, traditions and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities in the United States. This year UTSA has selected the theme “Hispanic Heritage Month: Prosperity, Power and Progress.”

UTSA’s Hispanic Heritage Month celebration will feature an array of events that showcase the diverse cultural heritage of Hispanic communities, with engaging activities for students, faculty, staff and the public. Lectures, workshops, a game night and festivals hosted by departments from all parts of campus will take place throughout the month and offer students, faculty, staff and the San Antonio community plenty of opportunities to engage through the university.

In San Antonio, the festivities will commence on September 14 with the Jovita Idar quarter celebration. This event, co-hosted by UTSA, the U.S. Mint and the National Women’s History Museum, will be held at the UTSA Downtown Campus. Latina journalist Maria Hinojosa will deliver the evening’s keynote address.

UTSA has always been committed to fostering an inclusive environment that celebrates diversity, and this year's Hispanic Heritage Month programming is a testament to that commitment. The university's extensive lineup of events, workshops, performances and discussions promises to engage, educate and entertain students, faculty, staff and the public.
