UTSA to host 2024 American Athletic Conference Academic Symposium in April

UTSA to host 2024 American Athletic Conference Academic Symposium in April

FEBRUARY 12, 2024 — The University of Texas at San Antonio will serve as the host institution for the 2024 American Athletic Conference Academic Consortium’s 2024 Academic Symposium, slated for April 12-14.

The consortium funds grants for research in the area of student-athlete well-being, and the symposium brings together student-athletes, scholars and athletics staff from The American’s member institutions to learn about the results of the research. The symposium also provides a space for collaborative efforts across the membership to discuss and enhance the student-athlete experience.

“It is an honor for UTSA to host the 2024 Symposium,” said Gregg Michel, associate professor of history and UTSA’s faculty athletics representative. “Not only does it bring together students, faculty and administrators from across the conference for innovative and stimulating sessions, but it gives us a chance to showcase what we’re building here at UTSA to our new conference peers. It’s going to be a fabulous weekend.”

The American Athletic Conference Academic Consortium was founded in 2016 as a presidential initiative by the conference’s member institutions to promote academic excellence and to develop opportunities for collaboration and professional development for faculty, administrators, and students. The core focus of the consortium is the establishment of research and formulation of programming relative to student well-being, with particular emphasis on the issues surrounding college athletics. The consortium aims at fostering partnerships among member institutions and developing initiatives that advance the academic mission at each institution.
