Game On: “Build the Nest” on UTSA Giving Day

Game On: “Build the Nest” on UTSA Giving Day

One of this year's challenges will benefit the UTSA Spirit of San Antonio (SOSA), which is in need of new attire.

APRIL 9, 2024 — UTSA Giving Day 2024 kicks off at 10:11 a.m. today and will unfold over 1,969 minutes, concluding at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10. The online fundraising campaign invites students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents and friends to elevate UTSA's ongoing achievements by supporting the university programs that are most important to them.

This year, UTSA aims to achieve the highest level of donor participation in UTSA Giving Day history, besting last year’s total of 3,683 individual donors. The campaign’s video game theme will build energy and fun competition among supporters as they encourage gifts to “level up” university colleges, programs and resources.

“Reflecting on the continual generosity of our university champions and supporters, I’m eager to launch UTSA Giving Day to foster even greater engagement across our Roadrunner community,” said UTSA President Taylor Eighmy. “I invite the entire Roadrunner Nation — alumni, faculty, staff, and all of San Antonio — to support our incredible students and the remarkable faculty and staff who create pathways of success for them to go out and change the world.”

“I am thrilled to reignite the spirit of excitement and camaraderie during another successful UTSA Giving Day.”

UTSA Giving Day presents an opportunity for individuals to contribute toward their favorite university programs. Participating donors can choose from a variety of causes, including but not limited to academic colleges, scholarships, athletics, career-readiness programming and the UTSA Alumni Association.

“I am thrilled to reignite the spirit of excitement and camaraderie during another successful UTSA Giving Day,” shared Karl Miller-Lugo, UTSA vice president for advancement and alumni engagement. “Once again, donors will have the opportunity to significantly increase the value of their gifts by participating in a series of challenges activated after certain dollar or donor counts are reached. Thanks to the generosity of our challenge donors, we have more than $200,000 in challenge funds ready to be leveraged, which is astounding.”

Among this year’s challenges is one that will benefit the UTSA Spirit of San Antonio (SOSA), which is in need of new attire after nearly 14 years. The band is inviting contributors to sponsor a new uniform that will represent SOSA's heritage and distinct identity, at a cost of $500 each.

If $20,000 can be raised to cover the first 40 uniforms, a $20,000 gift from Chris and Sara Bunch ’85 will match that amount. Additionally, the College of Liberal and Fine Arts, where SOSA is housed, aims to reach a Giving Day goal of $100,000, which will unlock an additional $100,000 anonymous grant for the uniforms.

This year’s campaign also welcomes Ancira Auto Group, under the direction of April Ancira ’03, which will be a corporate sponsor for the magnet challenge and student leaderboards. Hidden magnets will be scattered around the Main and Downtown campusesdirect designated funds to university programs of their choosing.
