AUGUST 21, 2024 — In its first major renovation since 2008, the Rowdy Campus Store at UTSA will get some exciting updates aimed at enhancing the in-store experience for students, faculty, staff and visitors.
The revitalized bookstore on the UTSA Main Campus will feature a new store layout, including updates to the checkout counter, an expanded range of UTSA merchandise and an improved selection of classroom materials to better meet the needs of students and faculty. The bookstore will also boast an enhanced, UTSA-themed blue, orange and white interior design, elevating the retail experience with a splash of school spirit and Roadrunner pride. Renovation work is scheduled to wrap up just in time for the start of the semester.
“Campus Services is committed to enhancing the campus experience by providing delicious food and high-quality goods and services,” said Carrie Charley, associate vice president for UTSA Campus Services. “Based on invaluable input that we receive throughout the year from our Roadrunners, we continuously explore innovative ways to expand our services to best meet the needs of our community.”
Later this fall, Roadrunners will see another exciting addition to the bookstore: Union Perk, a new coffee shop with a name some might appreciate as an homage to the beloved ‘90s sitcom “Friends.” The menu will feature a selection of Starbucks beverages and a variety of food options, including bakery items such as muffins, cinnamon rolls and pastries, as well as a selection of pre-made salads and sandwiches from Rising Roll.
With ample seating, Union Perk will provide a comfortable and relaxing space for studying, socializing and connecting with fellow students. While Union Perk is under construction, bookstore visitors can rest assured that there will be minimal impact on their shopping experience, as the space will be contained behind confinement walls until the coffee shop is ready for its grand unveiling.
Alongside the renovations to the bookstore, Campus Services has updated several campus dining locations to provide a refreshed, streamlined experience. The Main and Downtown Campus Subway locations now feature a more modern look, with updated menus that include items such as lavash-style flatbread wraps, offering customers more variety and healthier dining options.
The menu at BesTea will feature seveal drink options such as Coconut Taro, Caramel Thai Tea and Blue Mountain Coffee.
In the Biotechnology, Sciences and Engineering Building (BSE), Einstein Bros. Bagels has also received a facelift, including an updated interior design and new seating. The Boss Tea in the Science and Engineering Building (SEB), which is now under new ownership, has been renamed BesTea. While the menu remains largely the same, featuring popular boba tea options, updates to the look and logo reflect the changes to the store’s name.
