UTSA senior Jordyn Jenkins, the 2023 Conference USA Player of the Year and one of the leading candidates for the 2025 American Athletic Conference Player of the Year, will play her final game at the Convocation Center on Saturday, March 1.
FEBRUARY 27, 2025 — Following a win Tuesday over Tulane and league results Wednesday, the UTSA Women’s Basketball has clinched its first conference championship since the 2008-09 season and the fifth regular-season title in program history, with two games remaining on its American Athletic Conference schedule.
Under the direction of fourth-year head coach Karen Aston, the Roadrunners have amassed a 15-1 league record that has guaranteed the squad at least a share of the conference championship, with North Texas and South Florida tied for second at 13-3. With a win in either of its final contests against Florida Atlantic on Saturday or the following Tuesday at East Carolina, UTSA would cement itself as the outright champion and the No. 1 tournament seed in the 2025 American Women’s Basketball Championship. Additionally, the Roadrunners’ 15 league wins are tied for the second-most in the UTSA annals, behind the 2002-03 squad that went 17-3 in the Southland Conference.
Along with the 2002-03 title, the 2008-09 team compiled a 14-2 mark to tie for the top spot in the Southland’s West Division. UTSA also won two championships as a former member of the Oil Country Athletic Conference, going 8-1 in 1983-84 for an outright crown and tying West Texas A&M for the top spot with a 9-1 ledger in 1984-85.
UTSA will now look to secure the top seed on Saturday, March 1, with a Senior Day showdown looming with Florida Atlantic at noon in the Convocation Center. Saturday’s game will mark the final home contest for seniors Jordyn Jenkins and Nina De Leon Negron, whose tremendous efforts have elevated UTSA Women’s Basketball.
In addition to sending off the seniors in style, the Roadrunner faithful are hoping to see two records broken on Saturday. With a win over the Owls, the Roadrunners would earn their 25th victory of the season, which would set the university’s all-time single-season win record. UTSA is currently 24-3 on the season, which has tied the 2008-09 squad for the most wins in a single season.
UTSA fans are also shooting for a new single-game attendance record as part of the festivities. The previous record of 2,000 fans was set in 1991 when the Roadrunners faced off with SMU in the Convocation Center.
