APRIL 28, 2025 — During Fiesta San Antonio, Roadrunner pride can be seen at every turn. UTSA students and alumni will be participating in each of this year’s Fiesta parades, including the Texas Cavaliers River Parade, The Battle of the Flowers Parade and the Fiesta Flambeau Parade. Roadrunners past and present will be atop parade floats, representing the university and student body.
As is standard for all Fiesta parade participants, each organization has one float that is featured in both the Battle of Flowers and Fiesta Flambeau Parades. These floats are made to fit each parade's theme. This year's Battle of Flowers theme is Melodies in Bloom: A Texas Serenade, and the Fiesta Flambeau theme is Deep in the Arts of Texas.
The creation of each float begins when the previous year's Fiesta celebration concludes. UTSA’s Fiesta committee, which includes representatives from the university’s Student Affairs team, University Marketing, the Alumni Association and the President's Office, work together to brainstorm the float’s design to best fit the parade themes selected by the Fiesta San Antonio Commission.
This year’s UTSA float will present an imaginative and spirited roadrunner at the center, symbolizing pride, resilience and creativity. Surrounding the centerpiece will be decorative floral accents and other artistic elements.
Texas Cavaliers River Parade
Featuring more than 45 decorated floats, the Texas Cavaliers Parade is scheduled from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. tonight. The river parade will include festive music as decorated river barges float along the San Antonio River. For the second consecutive year, the UTSA Alumni Association will be featured on UTSA’s float. The float will carry representatives from university leadership, members of the UTSA Alumni Association and outstanding Roadrunner student-scholars. All proceeds from the Texas Cavaliers River Parade go to the Texas Cavaliers Charitable Foundation to help fund hundreds of children's charities and organizations across the community.
Battle of Flowers Parade
Located in Downtown San Antonio, the Battle of Flowers parade is scheduled on Friday, May 2. The vanguard will begin at 9:55 a.m. and the parade will follow at 10:30 a.m. The Battle of Flowers parade is the founding event of Fiesta. It’s one of the largest parades in the United States, attracting more than 350,000 spectators from around the world. In addition to UTSA’s float, watch for the Spirit of San Antonio, Mariachi Los Paisanos, Ballet de Folklórico and UTSA’s Spirits of the Roadrunner.
Fiesta Flambeau Parade
The Fiesta Flambeau parade will take place on Saturday, May 3. The vanguard will begin at 7:15 p.m. and the parade will follow at 7:45 p.m. The Fiesta Flambeau parade is Fiesta's nighttime parade, featuring colorful, illuminated floats, costumes and energetic bands.
Atop the float will be student leaders from the student government associations at UTSA and UT Health San Antonio and UTSA’s Spirits of the Roadrunner. Others riding the float include members from Roadrunner Productions, a team of students who plan vibrant campus events, Rowdy Crew, UTSA’s student-led spirit, and pride and student team, and VOICES, a student organization dedicated to connecting students and staff to volunteer opportunities. Mariachi Los Paisanos and Ballet de Folklórico will perform as well.
