JULY 5, 2025 — Editor's note: The following message was sent via email from UTSA President Taylor Eighmy to all faculty, staff and students.
As many of you know, our neighboring communities in the Hill Country along the Guadalupe River are experiencing devastating impacts from severe flooding. We know this catastrophic event is tragically impacting not only residents of these communities, but also those who were visiting the area for the holiday weekend. Many of our students, faculty, staff and alumni—as well as families of our students—have also been directly impacted by this disaster.
As this tragedy continues to unfold, we are working closely with our regional partners to stay up to date about those who are missing while search and rescue operations continue. The university has offered support to first responders, and our Student Affairs and People Excellence teams will be reaching out to students and employees from the region to provide counseling, academic resources and support.
In the days and weeks ahead, many of our community members will need tremendous support. Let’s continue to show compassion and check in on one another during these challenging times. Please don’t hesitate to reach out—we are here for you.
