Sgt. Heather Walleck Recognized by UTSA Staff Council

April 18, 2019

Congratulations to Sergeant Heather Walleck, of UTSA Police, recipient of the UTSA Staff Appreciation Award for March 2019.

Her exemplary attitude and wealth of knowledge have helped her colleagues gain insight into and better understanding of department operations. Her approachability allows those around her to feel comfortable asking questions and making suggestions.

Heather WalleckSgt. Walleck’s colleague, Sgt. Eric Weber, describes her as his mentor, saying Walleck leads him to “strive to be better because of her examples.” Both are members of the PD’s Administration section. Walleck works in Operations and Weber in Professional Development and Evidence.

Staff Council's Mary Alice Morizen, left, awards certificate to Sgt Walleck, center. Sgt Weber, right, nominated his colleague.

“We often see her taking a vehicle apart or making repairs to save on costs,” said Administrative Services Captain Stephanie Schoenborn. Sgt. Walleck is known for her handiness and goodwill within her department, inspiring those around her to follow her example.

Sgt. Walleck’s cheerful approach to her tasks creates a sense of can-do spirit among the staff. Her colleagues continuously marvel at her positive attitude at work, even when she faces new challenges. She recently was asked to convert a Chevrolet Tahoe into a working patrol unit. She coordinated the ordering and installation of all necessary components, such as the cage, weapon mounts, emergency lighting, and much more.

Chief Gerald Lewis thanked Walleck during the April 17 Staff Appreciation Award ceremony, where the sergeant was surrounded by dozens of colleagues. “It’s the people who do the little things who keep us going.” Chief Lewis went on to encourage his employees to further their good works in and outside of the community. He joked about Walleck’s effective use of duct tape (which we hope was a metaphor for working effectively with few resources).

Sgt. Walleck’s ingenuity, matched by her consistently friendly, pleasant, and helpful demeanor, make her an esteemed department leader. We congratulate her on winning this Staff Appreciation Award.
