Notes from Donna Graves, Travel Coordinator:

  1. It is not necessary to amend your RTA if your travel was extended or if you have additional expenses as a result of the grounding of flights because of the tragedy on September 11.
  2. You will only need to make note of these changes and/or additional expenses on your travel voucher.
  3. If your travel has been postponed or cancelled, e-mail me with those changes; it is not necessary to complete a new RTA.

Excerpts from messages from UT System's Travel Program Coordinator, Nancy Sutherland:

September 17 - At the moment, System is not issuing any type of statement restricting travel  -- it is a component as well as individual decision.  Flight schedules are a bit unstable at the moment as airlines continue to change and revise schedules -- something to keep in mind.  Other issues - if you have people using rental cars to get from place to place, check the charge carefully when cars are turned in.  It seems that some car rental offices have not been notified of modifications in drop policy, and they are charging incorrect rates.

Travel Update as of 8 a.m. – September 17, 2001

 Air Service

Airports and airlines continue to work toward returning to normal operation.  As of Sunday evening, two-thirds of all regularly scheduled flights were back in service.

In the coming week, airlines will begin to evaluate route structures and the frequency of flights in order to address security concerns and the economic impact of last week’s events on operations.  Over the next 7-10 days, if travel is required please keep in mind:

bulletFlights may be changed or cancelled with little notice, delays will be common
bulletA minimum two hour check-in is required for domestic travel – more time is recommended
bulletSpecial restrictions may apply for international travel – check with the travel agency and/or airline
bulletAll sharp or questionable objects should be removed from carry-on luggage (i.e. nail clippers, metal nail files, metal business card holders, Swiss army knives, pen/pencil sets with sharp angles)
bulletParked cars are not allowed within 300 feet of any airport entrance.  Unattended cars will be towed.
bulletPassengers with etickets must have proof of ticketing and photo identification in order to pass through security checkpoints.  Proof of ticketing can be one or more of the following:
