I began teaching writing and literature at San Antonio College in 1986, a few years later transferred to the then brand new Palo Alto College and finally began teaching at UTSA in 1996. I also have some experience teaching English as a Foreign Language to international military personnel at Lackland Air Force Base's Defense Language Institute.

I was born in San Antonio, and have lived here most of my life, but I have also lived in Japan, Hawaii and Germany and love to travel. I have been contentedly married to the same person since 1981 and together we have raise two splendid adult sons. We now live together with a cat. Apart from traveling, which I hope to keep doing frequently, I enrich myself by playing the mandolin and guitar, bicycling, reading history and writing. Writing is simply an extension of a person's voice, a medium by which we may reach more people than by just speaking and with which each of us may communicate in a carefully conceived and rehearsed form. Confident, carefully edited writing presents us at our best.
