The Spotlight

Integration Testing, Interfaces and Data Preparation Activities

Integration Testing

Integration testing began the week of August 26. The purpose of integration testing is to verify functional, performance and reliability requirements placed on the PeopleSoft modules. Simulating usage of shared data areas, it is the phase in software testing in which individual software modules are combined and tested as a group.

Interface Validation
Interface validation is one of the most important software tests in assuring the quality of the PeopleSoft suite. In a nutshell, an interface consists of sending data to and from systems for continued processing.  The goal of interface validation is to ensure data is properly transferred to interdependent systems and parties for completion of internal processes.

Data Preparation Activities
During August, UTSA Administrative support staffs began data clean-up actions needed to prepare data for PeopleSoft conversion.  It is necessary to clean-up DEFINE data in preparation for new business processes and cut-over to PeopleSoft.  To view the preparation activities that are being completed by Administrative staffs who are the primary HRMS users for their department, click here http://www.utsa.edu/utshare/Change/docs/2013-08-21-Handout.pdf

Training

What’s new?
Start learning the basics of UTShare/PeopleSoft through video and self-paced, online tutorials.

  • The UTShare training team has developed a video for all staff and faculty, called “The Look and Feel of UTShare”. This provides everyone with an opportunity to experience basic functions of the new software. This video demonstrates the ease of access with logging in, Employee Self Service (ESS) portal page navigation, folders and sub-folders, role-based security and how to perform a search.
  • Soon to come, on-demand training tools will allow you to choose the training mode most applicable to your individual learning style; featuring the “See IT” and “Try IT” options. The Employee Self-Service, Personal Information segment is the first in the series of on-demand training tools. This Personal Information segment demonstrates how to review, add and update employee personal information in the UTShare/PeopleSoft system.
  • To view the video and on-demand UTShare/PeopleSoft training materials, go to http://utsa.edu/utshare/Training/Modules/ESS/
  • Training course development and delivery roll-out design is underway.  The course timeline will be announced this fall.

What’s next?

The October Spotlight will focus on the PeopleSoft Support and Sustainment center. The UTShare/PeopleSoft Support and Sustainment Center is being developed to help faculty and staff with all questions about the PeopleSoft system. Dedicated staff is currently available to answer your questions through one, single-point of contact (SPOC) at SPOC@utsa.edu.
