MORESE Field Trips

Expense-paid field trips are an integrated portion of the MORESE program. The geology field trips included sedimentologic, stratigraphic, and diagenetic factors that control aquifer quality as a groundwater resource. Hydrology and water resources field trips included major watersheds and aquifers in south central Texas. The field trips brought together all supported students, while mentoring faculty and scientists were strongly encouraged to participate. We invited two local K-12 science teachers to join the trips each year. These teachers were selected from a pool of applicants and served as part of our pipelines of outreach to K-12 students. Qualified minority undergraduates not already involved in the research program were also invited to join the trips if space was available. We believe this was a great experience for both faculty and students to meet, collaborate, learn, and communicate in a geoscience- or engineering-oriented field and lab environment.
