As COVID-19 cases continue to surge locally, and we continue preparing for the upcoming semester, we wanted to update you on short-term adjustments we will be making to keep our Roadrunner community safe.
The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) is the largest university in the San Antonio metropolitan region with four campuses across the city. In an interview with Invest:, President Taylor Eighmy discussed the impact of the pandemic, ensuring equity in San Antonio and its educational institutions, key partnerships, strategic initiatives and his outlook for UTSA in San Antonio, the country’s seventh-largest city.
As we continue monitoring local COVID-19 trends, we are eagerly anticipating the return to in-person learning and our many spring semester traditions and experiences. Based on current projections, we will return to regular campus operations on Monday, February 7 as planned. On that day, classes will commence meeting in the teaching modalities originally planned for this semester.
Last fall, we announced a new partnership with the Southwest School of Art (SSA), combining their programs into an expanded new school in the College of Liberal and Fine Arts (COLFA). We'd like to update you on the progress we've made to bring this partnership to fruition.

It is with great pride that I share Tufts University today announced the selection of Bernard Arulanandam, UTSA Vice President of Research, Economic Development and Knowledge Enterprise (REDKE), as Vice Provost for Research.
Last August, we announced a strategic compensation plan to recognize and invest in our outstanding faculty, staff and student employees. The results of our campus climate survey identified compensation as a key area of needed focus, and we made this a top priority for fiscal year 2022.

Football season is here and our Roadrunners are back in the Alamodome for their first conference game on October 8. Last season we had tremendous support from the San Antonio community throughout our record-breaking season.
What a phenomenal time to be a Roadrunner! Last year we attained some major milestones including achieving Tier One and becoming a founding member of the Alliance of Hispanic Serving Research Universities. The momentum is continuing this year as we advance the arts through our UTSA Southwest Campus and prepare to open our newest building—San Pedro I—in Downtown San Antonio. Together we’re making astounding strides.

It seemed fitting that the fifth edition of CityFest began with a panel titled, “The Future of Downtown,” staged at UTSA’s Downtown Campus, with opening remarks delivered by UTSA President Taylor Eighmy.
Just over a year ago, we announced a multi-year comprehensive strategic plan to increase compensation, allowing us to recognize and invest in our outstanding faculty and staff. Today, we are pleased to share we are able to continue our focus on compensation in fiscal year 2023 (FY2023) as we continue to make UTSA an even better place to work.
