Hispanic Outlook ranks UTSA top in the nation among colleges and universities

The University of Texas at San Antonio has been recognized by The Hispanic Outlook on Education Magazine as one of the top 10 universities in the nation for granting bachelor’s degrees to Hispanic students. UTSA earned the No. 8 spot on the list, with nearly 60% of all bachelor’s degrees awarded in the 2020–2021 academic year being earned by Hispanic students.

As a longtime Hispanic Serving Institution, UTSA continuously improves and expands programs that accelerate Hispanic and Latino student success. From advising and transfer services, to the Bold Promise and other financial aid programs, UTSA supports its students from the moment they begin their academic journey all the way through to graduation and into their future careers.

In addition to ranking No. 8 in total bachelor’s degrees conferred, UTSA was ranked No. 13 in total master’s degrees granted, awarding 635, or 48% of all degrees conferred, to Hispanic students; and No. 15 in total enrollment of Hispanic students at four-year institutions, with 57% of Roadrunners identifying as Hispanic.

According to the latest rankings by Hispanic Outlook, UTSA also placed in the top 10 universities granting the highest number of degrees to Hispanic students in the following programs:

  • 2 in Parks, Recreation, Leisure, Fitness and Kinesiology
  • 3 in Architecture and Related Services
  • 4 in Computer and Information Sciences and Support Services
  • 9 in Business Management, Marketing and Related Support Services
  • 10 in Natural Resources and Conservation

The magazine annually features Top 100 lists in categories such as total enrollment and degrees conferred to help track the national progress of Hispanics in higher education and to spotlight institutions that are committed to Hispanic student success. The rankings were based on enrollment and degree completion data gathered during the 2020–21 academic year and were published in the magazine’s yearly report in October.

UTSA saw improvements in comparison to its position in Hispanic Outlook’s 2021 ranking, advancing three spots, from No. 18, for overall Hispanic enrollment for a four-year institution. UTSA also moved up one spot for total bachelor’s degrees granted and one spot, for total master’s degrees granted.
