Campus Carry Training

Signed by Gov. Greg Abbott in summer 2015, Texas Senate Bill 11 – known as "campus carry" – took effect on Aug. 1, 2016 and allows people with a License to Carry (LTC) permit, with the exception of active duty military and police officers, to carry concealed handguns in permitted areas on campus. The handguns must remain concealed. In fall 2015, UTSA appointed a task force of students, faculty members, staff members and administrators to develop recommendations to implement a plan at UTSA. The task force explored specific rules, regulations and procedures related to campus carry and developed policies that included items such as identifying potential gun-free zones, creating appropriate signage, and conducting public education programs. UTSA issued a campus carry policy on April 13, 2016.
