Microsoft President's Endowed Professorship

Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering

Ram Krishnan is an associate professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UTSA, where he holds the Microsoft President’s Endowed Professorship.

Krishnan directs the ECE Computer Security Research Group (CSRG). His research area is a mix of fundamental and applied aspects of cybersecurity. He is currently interested in topics such as utilizing machine learning techniques for the purpose of cybersecurity, developing novel techniques for security and privacy enhanced machine learning, automated cyber threat intelligence sharing and response, and improving Android’s current permission model.

In 2016, Krishnan was awarded a National Science Foundation (NSF) Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award. The award included a $500,000 grant to support his research in cybersecurity for five years. Krishnan says that the need to share information online while confining it to authorized recipients is one of the most challenging problems in cybersecurity. His CAREER funding focuses on the problem of specifying, analyzing and enforcing information sharing policies.

Krishnan joined UTSA in August 2010 after receiving his Ph.D. from George Mason University.
