Update following governor’s order on mask mandate

Update as of May 21, 2021 - Further clarification was received regarding the Governor's face coverings executive order, and no exceptions are allowed for child care centers, summer camps with K-12 students, clinics or counseling centers.

Dear Roadrunners,

Yesterday, Governor Abbott issued Executive Order GA-36 which prohibits government entities from mandating face coverings. This executive order takes effect Friday, May 21, and UTSA will comply with the governor’s executive order for the summer session and going forward. We will continue to strongly encourage the wearing of masks on our campuses, regardless of vaccination status.

Last week, the CDC also released new guidelines about masks being optional for those who are vaccinated, which indicates that progress is being made in the national fight against COVID-19. We especially appreciate the recommendations of our Public Health Task Force issued in their latest report to guide a safe campus reopening this summer. UTSA's domestic and international travel guidelines have also been updated.

We appreciate the efforts that each and every one of you have made to keep our community safe and healthy. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

With appreciation,

Taylor Eighmy
President
