Celebrating One Year as UT San Antonio
Note: UT San Antonio President Taylor Eighmy sent this message to all UT San Antonio faculty and staff on Sept. 1.
Dear Colleagues,
Today is a day worthy of celebration, as we commemorate one year since we launched a new era as a newly merged UT San Antonio - the third-largest research university in Texas with the power to expand opportunity, accelerate discovery, improve health and serve a growing region. On September 1, 2025, we became something rare in American higher education: a comprehensive research university integrated with the most comprehensive academic medical center in Texas, uniquely positioned to align education, research and discovery, healthcare and economic development.
The university’s first year together has demonstrated what is possible when ambition meets a shared purpose, and that would not be possible without your expertise, dedication and resilience as we work together to create something much greater than ourselves.
Because of you, across our campuses, students are pursuing multiple disciplines in the classroom while engaging in real-world problem-solving in the workplace. Because of you, researchers are pushing to find cures for our nation’s most complex, pervasive diseases. Because of you, innovators are leading the charge in modern defense and intelligence. And because of you, we continue to break record-enrollment and support an unprecedented number of first-generation students who are crossing our stage to go out and change the world.
Thank you for all you have done to bring our shared vision to life and for your continued commitment to our university. I am deeply humbled and proud to work alongside each of you. Together, we are building a new playbook for what a great public research university can achieve, and we will continue advancing the ambitious initiatives that will create lasting impact for students, patients and families, and for the communities we serve.
While much work remains ahead, I hope you can feel the momentum, see the ambitious vision we share, and recognize the lasting impact we are destined to make. This is only the beginning.
As we begin our second year together as one university, we have an opportunity to build on this momentum and further strengthen the extraordinary education, research, discovery and health missions that define UT San Antonio and UT Health San Antonio. Together, we are creating greater opportunities for our students, advancing discoveries that improve lives, expanding access to exceptional patient care and increasing our impact across the communities we serve.
With deep appreciation and great pride,
Taylor Eighmy, PhD
