One of the ways a top-tier university is measured is by the contributions it makes to society. This month, UTSA's Institute for Economic Development released its annual report showing just how much it is doing to strengthen communities and fuel our economy.
The institute provides training and research to businesses and local governments, primarily in the Texas-Mexico border region. Last year alone, the institute consulted with more than 36,000 businesses. In turn, those companies generated $1.6 billion in sales and investments, including more than $39 million in tax revenue. More than 500 new businesses and 4,000 jobs were also created.
The Institute for Economic Development is just one of many UTSA centers and institutes working to address society's most pressing needs. Some of our other centers are focused on health, energy, security and water issues. Still others support literacy and education, public policy and cultural preservation.
UTSA is making a significant impact on the quality of life in San Antonio, South Texas and around the world. This is truly the mark of a top-tier university.
I am extremely proud of the educational opportunities UTSA offers students. I am equally proud to be part of an institution that is improving lives for 45 years.
Your support makes all this possible. Thank you for all you do for UTSA.
President, The University of Texas at San Antonio
