I am interested in serving in the Student Government Association because I would love to have a role in being a voice for our students! I would like to help bridge the gap between our students issues and solutions. I like that SGA gives students the opportunity to communicate and work toward changes that can improve the campus environment.

I am interested in serving in the Student Government Association because I want to ensure students, especially freshman, have more opportunities and are connected to the UTSA community. Starting college can be overwhelming especially since around 40% of the student body is first generation when it comes to college, and many freshman may not know how to voice their issues, and access the opportunities available to them. Having served in previous leadership roles in Highschool I understand how to listen to others, communicate their needs, and turn it into action. Serving as part of SGA would help me advocate for the freshman class, and strengthen communication between students and university leaders.

Last year, I served as Student Council President at my high school, where I developed strong leadership and communication skills. I am interested in running for Senator because I want to contribute to student government by ensuring that the voices and concerns of the freshman class are meaningfully represented. Throughout high school, I was actively involved in student government, serving as Vice President and later President my senior year. I also founded and hosted the Hear Me Out Podcast, which reflected my interest in creating spaces where people could share their perspectives. As a pre-law student, advocacy is central to my goals, and I hope to bring that same commitment to UTSA by listening to my peers, representing their concerns, and working to turn their ideas into meaningful action.

My interest in being able to serve in the Student Government Association comes from my experience as a class officer throughout my high school years. Being involved in student council and leadership gave me the opportunity to work with different people. Some of my favorite memories from high school came from the people I met through these experiences. Working together toward common goals allowed me to build some of the friendships I value most and I hope to continue creating those connections through serving as a senator. The experiences that I have gone through have taught me the importance of being a strong team player. I have always had a natural desire to be involved in what happens behind the scenes at my school. I want to serve as a senator because I genuinely enjoy being involved and working with others.I enjoy being part of a group that has such a strong footprint at UTSA. I hope to bring my previous leadership experience to the Student Government Association.

I want to serve in the Student Government Association because I genuinely love giving back to my peers, and I want every student to know they have people in their corner. Being in Student Council last year gave me a real foundation for that kind of service, and going to the LEAD Convention completely opened my eyes to how much of an impact I can actually make just by showing up for the people around me. That experience taught me more than leadership skills. It showed me what happens when students are actually given a voice, and that's exactly why I want to bring that same energy to SGA.

Graduate students can sometimes feel overlooked when many events are scheduled during traditional work hours. I’d love to help create more opportunities for graduate students to get involved, connect with each other, and feel more included. I’ve also talked with some of my friends who are interested in having more opportunities like this, so I’d love to help encourage that involvement and bring more graduate students together.

I’m interested in serving in Student Government because I think a university should feel like a community in which students have some ownership over, not just a place they attend classes. There are a lot of decisions made on a campus that shape students’ everyday experience, but most students never really see how those decisions are made or feel like they have much of a role in them, and I’d like to be part of closing that gap. What interests me about SGA is having the opportunity to listen to what students are actually experiencing, understand how the university works behind the scenes, and help the concerns of the student body into actions that bring about change. Weather that’s by advocating for a larger change or doing something much less visible such asking the right question in a meeting, bringing attention to an issue that has been overlooked, or making sure students know what resources and opportunities are available to them, I’d like to help students feel like they have a genuine role in shaping the university they are a part of.

As a doctoral student in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, I have learned that policies are most effective when they reflect the lived experiences of the people they affect. My work as a graduate research assistant, student ambassador, and advocate has strengthened my ability to listen to different perspectives, collaborate with others, and communicate students’ needs to university leaders. As someone whose future aspirations revolve around corporate law and being a leader, being a senator for the College of Business would be an extremely fitting role. It would grant me the ability to be the voice for my fellow business students to faculty and administrators regarding issues and new policies, while also allowing me to be able to build meaningful and long-lasting relationships within the College of Business community. The leadership, social, and communication skills this position would develop are ones I'd carry well beyond this role, and future UTSA business majors looking to become senators themselves could be inspired to know they are capable of this too.

I have been with the university for three years and have engaged with a variety of organizations, serving in several leadership positions along the way. Through those experiences, I've come to realize how important it is for me to step into a new leadership role — one that allows for more direct engagement and more effective collaboration with my peers across campus.I'm also especially interested in organizing events for students. I believe events are one of the best ways to interact with the student body, create meaningful connections, and help students understand what SGA does at a deeper level. I want to bring my spirit as a first-generation student into this role — the belief that college isn't just about academics, but about building community and genuinely caring about the people around you. I am interested in serving in the Student Government Association because I am passionate about service, leadership and helping others grow. I have always believed that when you help the people around you become better, you also help build a stronger community. I enjoy seeing others succeed and I want to be someone my fellow students can look to for support and encouragement. As a Toastmaster, former student-athlete, full-time student and peer coach within the College of AI, Cyber and Computing, I have experienced different sides of student life. These experiences have taught me the importance of discipline, communication, teamwork and being there for others. I understand the challenges students face and I want to use my experiences to be a voice they can rely on. Serving as a peer coach has strengthened my commitment to helping my peers succeed and I see the Student Government Association as another opportunity to serve and make a positive impact. I want to be a guiding light for students, listen to their concerns, represent their voices and help create an environment where students feel supported and have opportunities to succeed. I am dedicated, committed and willing to put in the work. Service is not something I only talk about. It is something I have continued to practice throughout my experiences as a student, athlete, Toastmaster and peer coach. I’m interested in student government at UTSA because I genuinely enjoy being involved and having a voice in my school community. At West Brook High School, I served as Student Body President, where I had the opportunity to represent and lead over 2,000 students. I also served as President of the Latin American Student Association, which was especially meaningful to me because I was able to celebrate my culture while helping over 100 elementary students through a bilingual reading and learning program we created called “Reading With LASA”. Those experiences made me realize how much I enjoy connecting with people, listening to what matters to them, and being someone they can count on to speak up for them. Now that I’m at UTSA, I want to bring that same passion with me, meet new people, and help make students feel like they truly have a voice on campus.

Brandon Zamora

Serving as a HCAP Senator would give me the opportunity to fight for the largest college at UT San Antonio and make sure all HCAP students have a voice in the decisions that shape their college experience. I believe in a student government that can work for everyone and be a channel for advocacy and change. My commitment to student advocacy began long before college through my work in public education and community organizing. As someone who has spent years advocating for students to have a seat at the table, I want to bring that same energy to SGA. I want to be a senator who listens to students, brings their concerns to the university, and fights until something actually changes.

I am interested in running for a Student Government Senator position because I have always been actively involved in my school community and enjoy finding ways to make a positive impact. Throughout high school, I took on many leadership roles in organizations such as NHS and Student Council where I learned how to represent others, organize events, and listen to different perspectives. As someone who hopes to pursue a career in politics, I see student government as a great opportunity to continue developing my leadership and advocate skills while representing the students at my university. I want to use this position to be a voice for students and help make our campus a better place for everyone. As a Senator, I would like to be someone students can come to with their concerns and ideas and use my position to help create meaningful and positive changes on campus. I also want to help create a stronger sense of community on campus by supporting events, encouraging student involvement, and making sure students feel that their voices actually matter. I am excited about the opportunity to continue serving my school while preparing myself for a future in public service and politics.

Ne’Vaeh Tillman

I am interested in serving in SGA because I genuinely care about making sure students feel heard, supported and represented at UTSA. I have always been the type of person who speaks up when I see something that could be better, especially when it affects other students. Being an RA has made that even stronger because I get to see firsthand what students struggle with, what they need and how much of a difference it makes when someone actually listens and helps them find a solution. I am also involved in the Honors College and have become more involved across campus, and I want to take that involvement a step further. SGA would give me the opportunity to turn the things I hear from students into actual advocacy and change. I do not just want to be involved for the position or title. I want to be someone students know they can come to and trust to actually do something with what they tell me.
