In addition to UT San Antonio’s capital projects, other initiatives have been completed or are underway to enhance placemaking and elevate the campus experience.

Barshop Monument
The Barshop Boulevard Gateway Entry Sign was completed in March 2025. This monument serves as a landmark to welcome visitors to UT San Antonio and highlights the west campus.

Walkability and Bikeability
In 2023, the university was awarded an $11.7 million grant through the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Transportation Alternatives (TA) program to improve bicycle and pedestrian paths on the main academic campus. The grant is part of a state-wide effort to improve access to schools and amenities. The Walkability and Bikeability project will include constructing a pedestrian path and a bicycle path, raised crosswalks, ADA improvements, bicycle racks and safety improvements.

Brenan Lawn North and South
The Brenan Lawn North and South project was completed in spring 2025 as part of UT San Antonio’s placemaking initiative. Located along Brenan Avenue near the Convocation Center on the main academic campus, this space includes an outdoor stage for concerts, celebrations and student-led programming, as well as a large BBQ pit and open green area.
