About Copilot
About Copilot
Microsoft Copilot is an enterprise AI-powered assistant tool that enables users to experiment with generative AI text, image, and coding tools without storing user data or using it to train large language models.
Microsoft Copilot is the only approved generative AI tool for use with UT San Antonio data. Sharing university data or even using your university email address with an unapproved AI tool violates university cybersecurity policies.
UT San Antonio employees seeking approval for a different AI tool should submit a ticket for review.
Copilot acts as a virtual assistant capable of doing things like:
- summarizing long documents and pdfs ("Summarize this article")
- creating stunning images for social media, presentations, articles, and more ("Create an image of a roadrunner")
- drafting documents, agendas, presentations, itineraries, etc. ("Help me draft a meeting agenda")
Get answers you can use
Microsoft Copilot can help you research, analyze data, or seek new approaches. It can provide access to better answers, help improve efficiency, and suggest new ways to be creative. One major benefit of AI is that it allows us to conduct searches in conversational language. In other words, with Copilot, you get answers, not links.
- If you are an active student, use your student @my.utsa.edu email address. Please note that use of Copilot is not permitted by anyone under the age of 18.
- Part-time employees and student workers do not have access to Copilot with their @utsa.edu email address.
- Note: while you can use any browser to access Copilot, UTSA only supports the use of Microsoft Edge when accessing Copilot.

Using AI Tools Safely
Because AI draws from public forums for information, it's important to take certain precautions to ensure your data security, privacy, and academic integrity. It's also important to double-check any key facts for accuracy.
