Copilot Premium
About M365 Copilot Premium
M365 Copilot Premium is the paid version of Microsoft Copilot at UT San Antonio. It includes everything in Copilot Chat, plus the full Copilot experience in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote, and answers that draw on your work content. Licenses are available to faculty and staff and are paid for by your department.
Copilot Chat or M365 Copilot Premium?
UT San Antonio offers two versions of Microsoft Copilot. Both include Microsoft's enterprise data protection when you sign in with your university account. The difference is how much Copilot can do inside the Microsoft 365 apps and what information it can draw on.
Copilot Chat
In Microsoft 365, this version is labeled "M365 Copilot (Basic)."
- Chat with Copilot in the Microsoft 365 Copilot app
- Get answers from the web and from files you upload to the chat
- Use Copilot in Outlook with your inbox and calendar
- Standard access to Copilot in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote
M365 Copilot Premium
In Microsoft 365, this version is labeled "M365 Copilot (Premium)."
- Everything in Copilot Chat
- The full Copilot experience in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote
- Answers that draw on your work content, such as emails, meetings, chats, and files you already have permission to access
- Researcher and Analyst agents for multistep research and data analysis
- Priority access when demand is high
What can M365 Copilot Premium do?
Because M365 Copilot Premium works inside your apps and can draw on your work content, you can use it for things like:
- drafting a document in Word based on files you already have ("Draft a project update based on my notes from last week")
- analyzing data in an Excel workbook ("What trends stand out in this sheet?")
- building a PowerPoint presentation from an existing document ("Create a presentation from this Word file")
- catching up on email, chats, and meetings ("What decisions were made about the budget this week?")
- using the Researcher agent for multistep research across the web and your work content
Do I already have M365 Copilot Premium?
Sign in at copilot.microsoft.com (opens in a new window) and look at the label under your name. If it says "M365 Copilot (Premium)," you have a license. If it says "M365 Copilot (Basic)," you have Copilot Chat.
How do I get a license?
M365 Copilot Premium licenses are available to faculty and staff. Students are not eligible. Your department pays for the license.

Using your work data responsibly
M365 Copilot Premium can only use content you already have permission to access. That can include files, sites, and channels that were shared more widely than intended, so Copilot may surface information you didn't know you could open.
Before using Copilot with Internal or Confidential data, review UT San Antonio's guidance on AI tools and data classification.
