Microsoft MTO

Select members of the UT San Antonio Academic and Health communities are now able to collaborate via Microsoft Multitenant Organization (MTO). This feature allows users to work together using MS Teams and Outlook without needing to sign in or out of different accounts. With MTO, each campus retains its own data, security, and governance. In other words, MTO enables cross-tenant collaboration.

Right now, this capability is available to a limited number of users. For questions, please contact your IT support group (techcafe@utsa.edu or IMS-ServiceDesk@uthscsa.edu)

Below you will find a list of capabilities enabled by MTO.

Available Capabilities

Teams and Outlook User Search
Teams Chat (No Switching Accounts)
Teams Profile Visibility
Email (no External banner)
Teams Calling
Teams File Sharing
Microsoft Outlook Calendar: Free/Busy
Name Display in Teams

New Organization/Account Notice

Please note that you may see a notification in Microsoft Teams stating that a new organization or account has been added. This is expected and is part of the rollout of Multi‑Tenant Organization (MTO).

This does not mean a new personal account was created for you—it simply reflects expanded access behind the scenes. For most users, the way Teams works will not change.

If you have dual appointments (also known as POI / dual‑affiliate accounts) across both campuses, you may see multiple accounts in Teams. This is also expected behavior.

Known Issues

Why do I see multiple accounts in Microsoft Teams (POI / Dual Appointment Users)?
Why do I need to switch Microsoft Teams tenants to access some Teams or files?
Why am I unable to see a full org chart in Teams?
File Sharing in Teams Meeting Chats
