Email Authentication Change

As of September 27, 2022, UTSA email authentication requirements for all mobile devices will be upgraded in accordance with a new Microsoft policy to retire basic authentication

Many mobile apps use basic authentication--a simple process of sending and storing your username and password--to grant access to your email. In the current cyber landscape, however, basic authentication can make it easier for attackers to capture user credentials. To help keep your information safe, Microsoft is retiring the ability to use basic authentication to access email.

How to prepare

Fortunately, ensuring your email experience remains seamless is easy and involves only two steps.

  1. Please be sure your mobile device is up-to-date. You can find step-by-step instructions for updating your mobile device here: iOS, Android
  2. Please only use the official Microsoft Outlook app (iOS, Android) to access your UTSA email. Other mobile apps for accessing email, including the native iOS and Android mail apps, are not supported for accessing UTSA email, and may no longer work after this Microsoft policy change.  Note: you may need to update your Outlook app.

You can always access your UTSA email by visiting portal.office.com and logging in with your UTSA email and passphrase.
