College life checklist helps Roadrunners prepare for the new school year

New to college life?  Here are some tips and helpful resources to help you navigate the journey successfully!

Residence Hall Musts

  • Under-bed storage
  • Hanging shoe organizer
  • Style station organizer (trendy and helps your study space stay organized)
  • Noticeboard (for notes to your roommate and reminders for yourself)
  • Huggable hangers (the thin design can maximizing closet space)
  • Storage ottoman (can be a seat, foot rest and great for storage)
  • Portable charger (Keep your phone charged when you’re on the go around campus)
  • Noise canceling headphones
  • Laptop stand
  • Clorox wipes or Lysol spray…staying healthy is important
  • Rowdy gear in your closet to show off your Roadrunner pride
  • Orange and blue décor to solidify your allegiance to UTSA
  • Comfy shoes to wear when trekking from Alvarez Hall to the AET
  • Fire drill friendly pajamas

Rules of Roommate Etiquette

  • Set guidelines upfront
  • Respect your roommate and his or her belongings and space
  • Organize your schedules
  • Ask before borrowing
  • Keep the room clean
  • Turn the music down
  • Ask permission to have friends over
  • Address problems quickly. Talk it out

Your Collegiate Best Friends

  • Patience…with fellow students
  • Determination…to succeed with good study habits
  • Diligence…to work hard in class, on campus, and, if necessary for your finances
  • Rest…a good night’s sleep is imperative for college success
  • Smiles…enjoy this time of life, it goes by quickly
  • Focus…you are here to ultimately discover your career and your passion

Campus Safety

  • Be aware of your surroundings
  • When walking, plan the safest, most well lit and direct route. Go in groups when possible.
  • Walk like you know where you’re going
  • If you feel like you’re being followed, cross the street or change directions and go to a busy, well lit area.
  • Trust your instincts.
  • Do not walk away from the campus in the dark alone. Again, it is always best to walk in groups.
