JANUARY 19, 2022 — Nominations are now being accepted for the 2022 University Excellence Staff Awards. Recognizing extraordinary leadership, service and contributions by UTSA staff, the awards provide an opportunity to acknowledge employees whose dedication to the university has gone above and beyond. The deadline to submit nominations is Friday, February 11.
The University Excellence Staff Awards, together with the President’s Distinguished Faculty Awards and the President’s Distinguished Diversity Awards, will be announced at UTSA’s annual University Excellence Awards ceremony this April. This year’s ceremony will be a livestreamed event with watch parties on the Main and Downtown Campuses.
Categories for this year’s staff awards are listed below, and nominees must be a current UTSA staff member to be eligible. Nominations should encompass employee achievements from the 2021 calendar year. Additional requirements may apply for specific awards.
Rising Star Award ($1,000 prize)
The recipient of the Rising Star Award is a new employee who has made significant contributions throughout the year to his or her area or the university community.
Leadership Award ($1,000 prize)
The Leadership Award recognizes someone who has promoted departmental and university mission and goals through job performance.
Team Spirit Award ($1,000 prize)
The recipient of this award showcases the ability to foster collaboration, communication and cooperation among colleagues internal or external to their department.
Extra Mile Award ($1,000 prize)
The Extra Mile Award recognizes an employee who goes above and beyond to contribute to the success of UTSA through his or her outstanding contributions at work.
Order of the Roadrunner Award ($1,000 prize)
The Order of the Roadrunner Award, which is the highest honor a UTSA staff member can receive, is given for exemplary service and commitment to UTSA.
Richard S. Howe Staff Excellence in Service to Undergraduate Students Award (up to $2,000 prize)
New this year, this is the staff-only version of the Howe Award which builds on the existing award established in 2002 and named in honor of longtime engineering professor Richard S. Howe. Staff members are awarded this honor for their outstanding commitment towards UTSA undergraduates.
In addition to the staff-only awards listed above, staff may also be nominated for the President’s Distinguished Diversity Award. These awards are bestowed upon faculty, staff and students whose work has helped the UTSA community think about and practice diversity and inclusion in creative and collaborative ways.
