JANUARY 29, 2023 — Editor's note: UTSA Vice President for Inclusive Excellence Myron Anderson and President Taylor Eighmy shared this message with UTSA students, faculty and staff today.
Dear UTSA Community,
We are deeply saddened for Tyre Nichols, his family, their Memphis community and our nation. His death was so senseless and so unnecessary.
As our communities grapple with this tragedy, we respect the advocacy for peaceful demonstrations, especially coming from his family in spite of their immense grief.
In times like these, it is important to remember that we can turn to UTSA’s core values, relying on respect, inclusiveness, and integrity, as foundations to guide us in troubling times. We use these core values to prepare young people to go out and positively change the world.
This incident is challenging to our community. If you would like well-being assistance, UTSA's Wellness 360 has free virtual chat and voice services through My Student Support (MySSP) and counselors available for students. Support is also available for faculty and staff through our Employee Assistance Program.
We will support our community and are committed to collaborating to make the world a better place.
