Work Study & Internship Openings

The Office of University Strategic Communications hires 10-12 student workers every semester. Each of these positions offers a hybrid work environment. Although campus visits are required for the completion of some assignments, students will have work-from-home opportunities. Additionally, students will meet regularly with their supervisors via Teams video calls to advance projects and receive feedback.

Social Media Listener

The department’s Strategic Messaging team includes student workers who monitor social media from 4 to 9 p.m., three days per week. These students are fully trained by the department to independently monitor issues on the @UTSA Facebook, Twitter, Discord and Reddit channels. At the end of every evening shift, each student provides an email summary flagging opportunities and concerns for the Social Media supervisor.

Media Relations Researcher/Writer

The Public Affairs team is UTSA’s liaison to the news media. Student workers who join this team will learn best practices that support and advance the university’s media relations strategy. Qualified candidates must be strong researchers and writers. Duties include compiling media contacts lists, developing media backgrounders, ideating and drafting pitches, and related assignments. These students may be called upon to write news stories for  UTSA Today or to input content into the university’s content management system, upon completion of training.

Content Creator

Are you uber creative? Interested in graphic design or video content creation? Do you love photography? Join the University Strategic Communications team and develop branded graphics and videos for UTSA’s news sites and social media channels. Qualified candidates should be fluent in Adobe Creative Suite, have the ability to take phenomenal photos, and produce engaging graphics and/or reels. Timely awareness of pop culture trends is a must.

Social Media Coordinator

Competitive social media coordinators enjoy writing, manage their time well and have a strong attention to detail. These students provide administrative support for the @UTSA social media presence. Job duties include conducting research and developing reports around social media trends and best practices, updating the UTSA social media directory, developing social media content and engagement campaigns targeting students, and monitoring and engaging on social media, as needed.
