Work Study Openings

The Office of University Strategic Communications hires five to six student workers each semester. At this time, each position is remote due to the pandemic. Students will meet regularly with their supervisors via Teams video calls throughout the semester to complete projects and receive feedback.

Social Media Listener - two positions

(Both Fall 2022 positions are currently vacant.)

The Strategic Messaging team is looking for two students to monitor social media from 4 to 9 p.m., three days per week. Students will be trained to monitor the @UTSA channels and to help manage issues on Facebook, Twitter, Discord and Reddit. These student workers will regularly provide evening reports flagging opportunities and concerns for the Social Media team. They may also be called upon to proactively post on the @UTSA channels from time to time.

Media Relations Researcher/Writer - two positions

(Both Fall 2022 positions are currently vacant.)

The Public Affairs team, UTSA’s liaison to the news media, is looking for two students to provide support that will advance the university’s media relations strategy. Qualified candidates must be strong researchers and writers. Duties will include compiling media contacts lists, developing media backgrounders and other related assignments. Student workers may also be called upon to draft stories for UTSA Today and to input content into the university’s CMS, upon completion of training.

Graphic Designer – two positions

(One Fall 2022 position is currently vacant. The other position for Fall 2022 is currently filled.)

The University Strategic Communications team is looking for two talented graphic designers to produce branded graphics for UTSA’s news sites and social media channels. Qualified candidates should be fluent in Adobe Creative Suite and have the ability to produce families of graphics, carrying through a uniform look and feel for the UTSA communications channels. Creativity is required. The ability to edit video is a plus.

Social Media Coordinator – one position

(This Fall 2022 position is currently filled.)

The University Strategic Communications team is looking for a detail-oriented student worker to provide administrative support for its @UTSA social media presence. This student will be responsible for conducting research and developing reports around social media trends and best practices, updating the UTSA social media directory, developing content and engagement campaigns targeting students, and monitoring and engaging on social media, as needed.
