With the increasing economic tie between the US and China and the growing role San Antonio plays in the global economy, the demand for learning the Chinese language and understanding the Chinese cultural has also increased.
Located on the campus of UTSA, the Confucius Institute at UTSA has established its programs with the mission to promote Chinese language learning, help appreciate and understand the Chinese culture, history, and society, and create cultural and educational exchange opportunities for people in San Antonio and in the south Texas region.
The Confucius Institute at UTSA focuses especially on establishing Confucius Classrooms in all of the community colleges and in grade schools in San Antonio area. By offering college credited Chinese language and cultural courses instructed by well-trained Chinese language professors, coupled with its year-round Chinese language and cultural programs to pre-school to high school age children, the Confucius Institute strives to create the best environment for students of all ages to learn the Chinese language and culture!
The mission of the Confucius Institute is to promote Chinese language instruction, appreciation of Chinese culture, and understanding of Chinese history and society. The Confucius Institute helps build a bridge between China and the U.S., especially in the Texas region in terms of promoting awareness of multiculturalism and cultural and educational exchange.
Confucius Institute Headquarters, Hanban, the executive body of the Chinese Language Council International, is a non-governmental and non-profit organization affiliated with the Chinese Ministry of Education. Hanban is dedicated to providing Chinese language and cultural teaching and learning resources and services to people all around the world, meeting the increasing need of overseas Chinese learners, and promoting cultural diversity and harmony in communities and in the world.
The University of International Business and Economics (UIBE), is located in the lovely Chaoyang District, the most international area of Beijing. UIBE, founded in 1951 as the Beijing Institute of Foreign Trade, was designated as a “key university” by the government for its outstanding programs. In March 2011, UIBE established its first Confucius Institute at the University of Texas at San Antonio by partnering with UTSA.
