Remote Access

For those who need to access our services remotely, and this will be the case for those using the cluster or a Compute server like Bishop, one needs an SSH client for a remote terminal. Two popular SSH clients for windows are PuTTY and Tunnelier. Both also come with SFTP functionality to upload/download files from the server.

To use the programs, you'll need the following: hostname/server name, username, and password. The hostname would be something like cheetah.cbi.utsa.edu for the cluster and the username/password would be your CBI username and password. Once connected, you will be presented with a command line interface, terminal, or shell depending on how you want to call it. For those unfamiliar with Linux, we have a beginner's tutorial available.
