RCMI Open House at UTSA College of Sciences Research Conference

The UTSA RCMI Open House was held from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on Friday, September 30, 2011, in conjunction with the 2011 UTSA College of Sciences (COS) Research Conference "From Basic to Translational Research: Promoting Interdisciplinary Collaboration in the Sciences." Over 450 people attended the day-long conference which showcased 45 oral and 251 poster presentations.

During the event, two RCMI Research Cores provided tours of their facility to student groups. The Rising Researchers Freshman Seminar students, a group of 17 college freshmen under the aegis of the MBRS-RISE program, toured the RCMI Nanotechnology and Human Health Core; the Core Assistant Director Dr. Carlos Garcia conducted the tour. Thirty-five seniors from John Jay High School’s Microbiology class toured the RCMI Biophotonics Core; the Core PI and Director Dr. Colleen Witt gave the tour. Both tours were highly successful and the students in each group were favorably impressed.
