Endowed positions move UTSA toward premier research university statusThe Vaughan Family Endowed Professorship in Physics and the Roland K. Blumberg Endowed Professorship in Music – both funded by long-time supporters of The University of Texas System – are the latest additions to a growing number of professorships, distinguished professorships, chairs and distinguished chairs that are helping UTSA to attract outstanding new scholars and researchers to the University. Curtis Vaughan, a member of the UTSA Development Board since its inception in 1975 and its first chair, and his wife Phyllis contributed $100,000 in the summer of 2005 to establish the first endowed position in the Department of Physics and Astronomy in the College of Sciences. The legacy of longtime supporter Roland K. Blumberg of Seguin, who passed away in 1997, continues at UTSA through the Blumberg Professorship in Music, which is being funded by a recently terminated charitable trust. Blumberg and his wife Jane, a UT Regent from 1977-83, also funded two other professorships in the sciences at UTSA during their lifetimes. Jane Blumberg passed away in 1992.
