Junior Accounting Major Melanie Spiller represented UTSA as a presenter at the National Collegiate Leadership Conference at University of Arizona, February 12-14. Ms. Spiller traveled to Tucson with Vincent Perez, the Program Coordinator for the Student Leadership Center and a group of five other students who also attended the conference with SLC support. Her presentation on the “Five Dysfunctions of a Team” drew the maximum capacity audience and appreciative comments from attendees from around the country.

Emily Medrano Named Zumba Ambassador to Texas Higher Ed

Emily Medrano Zumba Ambassador

After being highlighted on UTSA’s Meet A Roadrunner, Emily Medrano was contacted by Zumba and offered an opportunity to participate in a new initiative that aims to promote Zumba on college campuses across the United States. Medrano would serve as a Zumba Ambassador for the State of Texas. UTSA is the only Texas campus that was chosen to participate in this initiative to promote the benefits of physical exercise, through Zumba, on college campuses.

Emily will continue to teach about twenty classes a semester for Campus Recreation on the Downtown campus. She will be essential with establishing a social media campaign on the main and Downtown campus. She plans to host a variety of Zumba-themed events to introduce Zumba to the campus on a large-scale. Through these events, she will gain feedback from participants and be on the forefront for being able to provide UTSA’s Zumba participants with the latest program releases and updates.

Staff Development Team Launches New Staff Orientation Program

Congratulations to the Staff Development Team for an outstanding new staff orientation program. They introduced a new format this semester and provided a great opportunity for our newest staff members to learn about the Division of Student Affairs, our traditions and the ways to get involved in the UTSA Community. Staff had a chance to connect across departments, communicate goals for professional development, foster new collaborations during and involvement fair and create friendships. Thank you to the team and all of the presenters.

University Career Center Hosts Successful Career Fairs

Kudos to the University Career Center team. They hosted two very successful Career Fairs on February 16. Not only did they present an excellent event, their presence on social media was top-tier. From streaming live on Periscope to having live conversations with students and employers in Twitter, the social media engagement took the events to the next level. The resulting conversations eased nervous candidates and celebrated the amazing companies recruiting our Roadrunners.

Congratulations to the staff that “made it happen!”
