Hon. Yvonne Katz, Ed.D. '74

A member of the first graduating class at UTSA in 1974 known as the "Koger Center Class"

How did your time at UTSA help prepare you best for your future?

Since I was in the first graduating class, I was in on the ground floor of creating a university! I have known and worked with all of the presidents of UTSA including Dr. Arleigh Templeton, the first president. I served on the first Faculty Senate representing the student body. I was also on the Committee of Committees as well as the Doctoral Studies Committee. These leadership positions and knowing/working with the leaders of the University gave me insights into how leaders engage and lead to achieve goals.

As a new graduate in 1974, I sought a few other students to meet with Dr. Peter Flawn, President, to request that we establish an Alumni Association. Dr. Flawn agreed. Being in on the ground floor of all of these early experiences at UTSA gave me invaluable knowledge and skillsets to help me be successful in my educational endeavors as a Superintendent, President of my consulting firm and Trustee for the Alamo Colleges District!
