“I attended UTSA from the spring of 2000 to December 2001, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in English after transferring twice from other institutions.

Somehow, UTSA felt like comfort despite being a commuter school: the right bed, the right water temperature, the right hoops team—just right on everything.

I was taken in by the English dept., in particular Debbie Lopez, David Ray Vance, Wendy Barker and the late Catherine Kasper. All patiently listened to my questions, poems and other nonsense spouted from over my exuberance of just being there.

Returning to graduate school at UTSA for one year in the Fall of 2002 after quitting my first job only confirmed my original decision. The English department aided in launching me to my next destination.

Now I am a professor of English at the Community College of Denver in a thriving department and arts community. UTSA never far from me with its pulse.

Happy 50th UTSA!

Go Roadrunners!”
