Centro San Antonio (Centro), in collaboration with The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), VIA Metropolitan Transit (VIA) and eCab North America (eCab) announced today the approval of permits authorizing free public use of The Little Runner shuttle service.

The idea of open and free ridership has been a foundational piece of The Little Runner pilot program, and since its March 14 th launch, has provided over 2,000 rides to over 4,000 passengers. Coming off the heels of a successful 7 weeks of student focused service, The Little Runner is now set to extend that same high-quality experience throughout Downtown San Antonio.

The courtesy shuttles aim to provide last-mile transportation options within the downtown core and the Public Improvement District (PID) boundaries. The service area that has been identified to create the largest impact is based around high commute times for students, the downtown community, and summer visitors.

General ridership will be available to the entire downtown community beginning TODAY, Monday, May 13. While the overall scope of the pilot program encompasses a late spring and summer utilization period, general ridership will provide necessary data for the remaining months. Revised summer hours will be announced in the coming weeks, until then, service will currently run through the dynamic route during the following hours and days:

  • Monday – Thursday: 7:30 a.m.-10:30 p.m.
  • Friday: 7:30 a.m.-7:00 p.m.

"We are thrilled to invite downtown residents, visitors, and the entire downtown community to ride The Little Runner," said Trish DeBerry, president and CEO of Centro San Antonio. “We are immensely grateful to all the partners who provided guidance, helping us make this significant advancement in piloting a micro-transit solution.”

The pilot will provide necessary data in understanding the needs of the downtown community, including areas where additional routes may be established during future initiatives. The service is free for commuters downtown and can be hailed via app available on both Apple and Android platforms, phone through call or text at 210-802-6610, or in person and provides ADA accessible options.
