The Assistant/Associate Director of Development will play a critical role in helping the college meet its fundraising goals for the university’s $500 million campaign, Be Bold: A Campaign for Our Future.
Reporting to the Chief Development Officer of the Carlos Alvarez College of Business (ACOB), this role will be responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding primarily mid-tier level donors and prospects for the College.
With over 8,000 students, the Carlos Alvarez College of Business is one of the 40 largest business schools in the nation and offers a comprehensive curriculum at the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral level that expands the boundaries of a traditional business education.
Nationally ranked and recognized, the College was named one of the Top 5 undergraduate business programs in Texas by Bloomberg Businessweek. At the graduate level, the college was ranked the No. 10 graduate business school in the nation for Hispanics by Hispanic Business.
Core Responsibilities
- Meet or exceed defined visit, activity, and fundraising goals.
- Manage a personal portfolio of primarily mid-tier level donors and prospects.
- Responsible for discovery, pipeline building, strategic engagement activities, as well as moves management with major gift donors and prospects.
- Work closely with the key partners throughout the Office of Advancement & Alumni Engagement and the Alvarez College of Business to develop and implement short and long-term strategic fundraising plans.
- Assist in planning, strategy, and execution of donor events.
- Contribute to internal and external communications and overall public relations and marketing for the ACOB to include the College’s website, publications, donor stewardship, and promotional and fundraising materials.
- Maintain an in-depth knowledge of ACOB and the university, its initiatives and fundraising priorities in order to communicate a compelling case for support, and to serve as a liaison between and representative of UTSA and our constituents
- Participate in key events, committees and other opportunities to cultivate relationships with donors, prospects, and internal partners; support advisory councils with development-related matters and manage volunteers as appropriate
- Prepare dean, other administration or volunteers for development activities.

- Bachelor's degree and one year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications
- Three years of professional fundraising experience securing private support for a university or service organization, or experience in sales of services.
- Demonstrated ability to make cold calls as well as to develop cultivation and solicitation strategies.
- Experience in collaborating with a team involving different phases of advancement including development, communications, special events and alumni relations.
- Experience working with advisory council members and other volunteers.
- Familiar with San Antonio business and philanthropic communities.
- Knowledge of development information systems, preferably Raisers Edge and NXT.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel and Outlook or equivalent email system.
- Planned Giving experience.
- Capital campaign experience.

AAE creates philanthropic opportunities that support student success, research excellence, and strategic growth while also maintaining strong ties with alumni.
The Office of Alumni Engagement drives all aspects of alumni engagement strategy designed to increase connections, participation, and philanthropic support. This office seeks an enthusiastic, innovative, and solution-oriented individual to serve as Events Coordinator and assist in facilitating the Alumni Association’s signature events. Reporting to the Senior Events Manager, he/she will be responsible for:
Core Responsibilities
- Plan and implement assigned facets of on and off-site events, such as coordination/procuring of location, facilities, technical services, supplies, marketing, publicity, and personnel.
- Coordinate volunteers for assigned events; communicate directly with volunteers about schedule and responsibilities, ensure volunteers are trained.
- Collaborate and communicate with internal and external partners to serve as department’s primary liaison in coordinating co-sponsored events.
- Partner with department to implement approved marketing and branding strategies.
- Communicate information regarding campus facility operations, policies, regulations and procedures to vendors, sponsors, customers, and any other university community partners.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop budgets for events in preparation for each fiscal year.
- Create and maintain accurate reports for post-events; share reports with appropriate partners.
- Provide exceptional service to guests, such as alumni, donors, and students, while adhering to the university and association established policies, procedures, and goals.

Job Summary
The CASE Advancement Internship, hosted in partnership with UTSA, is a summer program from June 2 to July 25, 2025, designed to provide hands-on experience in university advancement. Interns will work within UTSA’s advancement office, gaining skills in fundraising, alumni relations, advancement services, and communications and marketing. Ideal for students exploring careers in higher education advancement, the program offers mentorship, professional networking, and practical training that can lead to rewarding roles in the education sector.
Core Responsibilities:
We offer a comprehensive rotational experience designed to ensure interns actively engage with each department. Responsibilities will vary depending on the assigned department, allowing interns to gain diverse exposure. Examples of projects interns will contribute to and gain hands-on experience with include:
- Donor Engagement – Take inventory of AAE swag, contribute ideas for stewardship gifts and gala materials, shadow the Strategic Communications team, and participate in a mock video shoot.
- Alumni Relations – Facilitate events such as New Student Orientation and Ring Sales, develop a social media strategy and graphics for tailgates, attend a finance committee meeting, and research ways to boost LinkedIn engagement.
- KCEID Development – Simulate donor tours, engage with the Student Success Center about corporate ambassador programs, learn about portfolio management, attend fundraising and planning meetings, research corporate engagement models, and participate in a CASE panel discussion.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be enrolled currently or within the past 6 months as an undergraduate or graduate student at a university
- Must be in good standing with the university, minimum GPA of 2.5
- Some interns will work remotely and will need reliable internet access and a computer or laptop with an internet connection. A designated work area is the responsibility of the student
- Ability to travel to and from events, meetings, training sessions, or other business-related events.
- Office environment; requires the use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer, and calculator.
Benefits:
The CASE Advancement Internship provides hands-on educational advancement experience, offering interns practical opportunities. Interns receive compensation for the duration of the program and benefit from a three-day in-person training in Washington, D.C., for U.S. and Canada participants (June 22–24, 2025), where they learn the fundamentals of educational advancement. Each intern is paired with a mentor from their host institution and matched with a CASE member in their field of interest for virtual meetings throughout the internship. Additionally, participants engage in introductory online seminars to explore the various facets of the advancement profession. Interns enjoy a one-year CASE membership post-internship, providing access to webinars, the CASE Library, and Career Central and regular updates on entry-level job postings and professional development opportunities. The program also offers flexible schedules and the possibility of remote or hybrid work assignments in some departments. Interns will gain valuable networking opportunities by working alongside experienced advancement professionals and participating in events and professional meetings, equipping them with the skills and connections to build a successful career.
Schedule: The CASE Advancement Internship runs for 8 weeks, running from June 2 – July 25. Intern hours will vary but will not exceed 40 hours per week.
