Essential Functions
Job Summary
The Assistant/Associate Vice President for Athletics Development oversees the fundraising programs for UTSA Intercollegiate Athletics providing vision, strategic leadership and oversight of all fundraising activities in support of Roadrunner Athletics. This position will ensure a strong alignment and coordination with university-wide advancement strategies and campaign priorities. Reporting to the Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics, this role is responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive athletics development program to secure major and principal gifts, expand annual giving, strengthen donor engagement, and steward impactful partnerships.
Core Responsibilities
- Leads the strategic planning, execution, and management of all fundraising initiatives for UTSA Athletics, including capital projects, scholarships, program support, revenue share and endowments.
- Serves as a key member of the Athletics executive leadership team, contributing to long-term visioning, financial sustainability, and programmatic excellence.
- Collaborates with the Vice President for Advancement and Alumni Engagement and their leadership team to ensure Athletics fundraising aligns with university priorities and is integrated into broader campaign efforts.
- Manages a portfolio of high-capacity prospects and donors, with an emphasis on cultivating and securing major and principal gifts.
- Supervises and mentors the Athletics Development team, fostering a culture of high performance, accountability, collaboration, and donor-centricity.
- Serves as the primary liaison between Athletics and Advancement to coordinate strategy, reporting, donor relations, and event planning.
- Partners with coaches, Athletics staff, and university partners to identify funding needs and engage donors in meaningful ways.
- Provides oversight and coordination of UTSA’s Revenue Share fundraising initiatives, ensuring alignment with university and Athletics policies while supporting student-athlete success and external engagement.
- Provides strategic coordination and leadership for revenue-generating initiatives directly tied to donor engagement and athletic development, such as season ticket sales, premium seating opportunities, and philanthropic corporate partnerships.
- Collaborates with the Roadrunner Athletic Fund and former student-athletes association to strengthen alumni involvement and philanthropic connections.
- Represents Athletics Development at university and community events, athletics competitions, donor gatherings, and board meetings, as appropriate.
- Maintains a deep understanding of NCAA regulations, UTSA policies, and UT System guidelines to ensure fundraising efforts are conducted with the highest integrity.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- 10 years of progressive leadership experience in development, preferably in collegiate athletics or higher education advancement.
- Experience supervising and developing teams, managing budgets, and leading through change.
- Demonstrated success in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gifts ($100,000+) and experience managing high-capacity donor portfolios.
- This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UTSA and its infrastructure.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in intercollegiate athletic ticket sales/operations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of intercollegiate athletics and a commitment to supporting student-athlete success.
- Excellent interpersonal communication, and collaboration skills with the ability to build strong internal and external relationships.

Essential Functions
Job Summary
UTSA Advancement and Alumni Engagement (AAE) seeks a strategic, collaborative, and solution-oriented development professional, with excellent relationship-building and communication skills to serve as an Assistant Director of Development. This position will report to the Executive Director of Annual Giving, specific duties will include:
Core Responsibilities
- Contributes to the planning and implementation of fundraising campaign initiatives; assist with building the university’s donor pipeline by identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors.
- Meets or exceeds defined visit and fundraising goals to increase, retain, and upgrade donations from annual giving donors.
- Leads digital development strategy; implements methods to digitally assess, cultivate, and solicit prospects; and develops benchmarks to assess effectiveness of digital development strategy.
- Manages a prospect portfolio; regularly assess the next steps in collaboration with development colleagues.
- Directly supports activities related to donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship for assigned colleges and units.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Additional education may be substituted for experience on a one-for-one basis.
- One year of relevant experience.
- This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UTSA and its infrastructure.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three years of professional fundraising experience with annual and/or major gifts, or experience in integrated marketing, sales of services, or related industries.
- Similar experience in an institution of higher education or non-profit atmosphere.
- Demonstrated ability to make cold calls as well as develop cultivation and solicitation strategies.
- Proven track record of closing gifts/sales.
- Experience in collaborating with a team involving different phases of advancement, including communications, special events, and alumni relations.
- Knowledge of development information systems, preferably Raisers Edge.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to build excellent relationships within all organizational levels and with outside constituencies.
- Highly effective organizational skills.
- Detail-oriented, self-starter with demonstrated ability to work independently and manage more than one project simultaneously to meet deadlines.
- Familiarity with development information systems and personal computers.
- Ability to travel to and from meeting and other business-related events.
