Luretta Filberth
Director

Education:Luretta graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the Murray State University in 1972. She completed twenty-four hours on her Master's at Southern Illinois University 1974 and twenty-four hours in Early Childhood Education 1989. She directed child development centers for the Army and the Navy for nine years. In addition, Luretta was a Special Needs Coordinator for three years in Germany. Luretta's directing experiences derives from the many upstanding positions she's held over the years, such as: Executive Director of Project STOP (3 years), Sustaining Core Coordinator for the state of Illinois (5 years), and serving on the planning body of the Executive Branch of Greater Egypt Health (3 years.)

Hobbies:She enjoys traveling and reading.

Philosophy:  "Children learn thru play. We as adults should provide hands-on learning experiences in a warm and caring environment."

Sondra Gervasi
Assistant Director

Education: Sondra received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She has gained over five years experience as a teacher through working with infants, toddlers, and school-aged children. She is also a mother of three wonderful children.

Hobbies: In her spare time Sondra enjoys sewing, arts & crafts, and the performing arts. She is also active with the Boys & Girl Scouts of America and little league events.

Philosophy: " Children learn through play; therefore, their environment should be rich with opportunities to explore, discover, use language, and get messy! My curriculum is child-centered, incorporating the individual needs of each child."

 

Anne Folmar
Administrative Associate

Norma Castillo
Administrative Associate

Education:  Norma graduated from Richard King High School in Corpus Christi. Prior to joining the UTSA-CDC team, Norma was employed by the UTSA Downtown Library for five years. She is now pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Spanish with emphasis in Mexican-American Studies.

Hobbies:  In her spare time Norma enjoys gardening, shopping, and listening to country music.

Philosophy:  "Children are one third of our population and all of our future."

Silva Mendoza
Kitchen Cook

Education:  Silvia is certified by the Texas Department of Health Retail Food Division, and holds a Food Service Management Certification since 1996.

Hobbies:  She loves to cook, participating in the church ministry, and reading; spend time with friends and her dog.

Philosophy:  "Reading and applying God's word will help you succeed in everything you do in life."
