The College of Sciences Presidential Scholarship
The College of Sciences Presidential Scholarship is available to undergraduate and graduate students who are declared majors in the College of Sciences. The number and amount of awards will be contingent upon the availability of scholarship funding.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Full-time student (12+ credit hours/semester for undergraduate; 9+ credit hours/semester for graduate).
- Declared major in the College of Sciences.
- SAT score of 1090 and/or ACT score of 24 and cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale) for incoming freshmen.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale) for current students.

The College of Sciences Dean’s Scholarship
This scholarship is available to incoming freshmen who are declared majors in the College of Sciences. The number and amount of awards will be contingent upon the availability of scholarship funding. This scholarship is not to be used in conjunction with other College of Sciences Dean’s Scholarship funds.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Full-time student (12+ credit hours).
- Declared major in the College of Sciences.*
- 12 credit hours or less taken by Fall 2009. Credits earned by examination are not counted in the 12-hour limit.
- High school GPA of 3.0 or above and 3.0 average in all college courses taken.
- SAT score of 1000 or above with a score of 560 or above on the mathematics section, or ACT score of 24 or above with a score of 25 or above on the mathematics section.
- Four or more years of mathematics (through precalculus or trigonometry) and three or more years of science in high school.
- Top 20% in high school graduating class.

The Emily Zachry Ansley Endowed Scholarship
The Emily Zachry Ansley Endowed Scholarship is available to undergraduate students who are declared majors in the College of Sciences. The amount of the award will be contingent upon the availability of scholarship funding.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Full-time student (12+ credit hours).
- Declared major in the College of Sciences.
- 30+ credit hours with GPA of 2.5 or above (on a 4.0 scale).
- Texas resident and a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
- Financial need as determined by Office of Student Financial Aid.
Application Requirements:
- Application form
- Two (2) recommendation forms from UTSA faculty members
- Written essay of 600 words or less on one of the following topics:
- A research or other activity related to the student’s major in which he or she participated.
- An activity or experience which motivated the student’s choice of major.
- An issue or problem in the student’s field of study.
Selection Criteria:
- Academic abilities
- Motivation
- Evidence of creativity
- Potential for a successful career in the sciences
- Financial need
- Grade point averages, clarity of the essays, and strengths of the recommendations will each play an essential role in the selection process.

The Joseph J. Gdovin, Jr. Memorial Scholarship
The Joseph J. Gdovin, Jr. Memorial Scholarship is available to undergraduate students who are declared majors in biology or other related life sciences. This scholarship is renewable on a semester by semester basis if all criteria are met. The number and amount of awards will be contingent upon the availability of scholarship funding.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Full-time student (12+ credit hours).
- Declared major in biology or other related life sciences at the sophomore level or above.GPA of 2.8 or above (on a 4.0 scale).
- Financial need as determined by Office of Student Financial Aid.
- Recognizable academic merit as determined by the selection committee.

The Sam Madrid, Jr. Endowed Scholarship
The Sam Madrid, Jr. Endowed Scholarship is available to full-time undergraduate students who are majors in mathematics, statistics or engineering. The amount of the award will be contingent upon the availability of scholarship funding.
The Sam Madrid, Jr. Endowed Scholarship was established in the Fall of 1994, and named after a native San Antonio engineer with a long record of professional and community achievement. Mr. Madrid was involved in establishing the Engineering Program at The University of Texas at San Antonio.
Eligibility Criteria:

Full-time student (12+ credit hours) or incoming freshman for Fall 2009.

Major in: biology, chemistry, computer science, environmental science, geology, mathematics, multidisciplinary science, or physics.

Graduated from a San Antonio area high school.

The Bernard P. Sagik Memorial Scholarship is available to undergraduate students who are declared majors in the College of Sciences. The amount of the award will be contingent upon the availability of scholarship funding. This scholarship is renewable on a yearly basis up to four years if all eligibility criteria are met.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Full-time student (12+ credit hours).
- Major in the College of Sciences.
- 24+ credit hours at UTSA.
- GPA of 2.8 or above (on a 4.0 scale).
- Preference to students of the first generation to attend or graduate from an institution of higher education.

The Dr. B. Thyagarajan Endowed Scholarship
The Dr. B. Thyagarajan Endowed Scholarship is available to undergraduate students who are majors in chemistry, geology or physics. The number and amount of awards will be contingent upon the availability of scholarship funding.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Full-time student (12+ credit hours).
- Freshman or sophomore student.
- SAT score of 860 or above and/or ACT score of 18 or above and rank in the top 50% of high school graduating class for incoming freshmen.
- GPA of 2.6 or above (on a 4.0 scale) for current students.
- Major in chemistry, geology or physics.
- Preference to students with financial need as determined by Office of Student Financial Aid.
- Preference to students who are taking or have taken Organic Chemistry for chemistry majors.
Recipients will be required to write a two-page essay on the life of one of the following:
- United Farm Workers leader, Cesar Chavez
- India’s freedom movement leader, Mahatma Gandhi

The USAA Foundation Scholarship
This scholarship is available for undergraduate and graduate students who are majors in the College of Sciences. Each recipient of this scholarship will receive $2000 for the 2009-2010 academic year disbursed equally in the fall and spring semesters, provided the funds remain available and the recipients meet the minimum selection criteria stated below.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Full-time student (12+ credit hours for undergraduate; 9+ credit hours for graduate) or incoming freshman or transfer student for the Fall 2009 semester.
- Declared majors in the College of Sciences.
- GPA of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale) and SAT score of 1090 or above (without the writing score) or ACT score of 24 or above for incoming freshman.
- GPA of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale) for current students.
- Financial need as determined by Office of Student Financial Aid
Recipients must be full-time students (12+ credit hours for undergraduate; 9+ credit hours for graduate).
