 Facilities:

ThermoFinnigan DeltaPlus XP Stable Isotope Ratio Mass-Spectrometer(IRMS)

Costech EA is used to combust solid inorganic/organic samples in continuous flow for analysis of  nitrogen and carbon isotopes.

Gasbench II is used for high precision on-line isotope ratio determination of gas species, waters and carbonates.  18O/16O ratio in water is obtained through equilibration with CO2 gas, and incase of carbonates both 18O/16O and 13C/12C ratios are measured for CO2 gas extracted from carbonate samples reacting with phosphoric acid at a constant temperature.

TC/EA (High Temperature Conversion/pyrolysis) is linked to the IRMS to obtain on-line oxygen and hydrogen isotope compos-ition of both solid and liquid bulk samples.  At an operating temperature of 1450 ºC oxygen present in a sample/compound is convert-ed to CO, and hydrogen in a compound is converted to H2, and these gases are then sent to the IRMS for measurement.
