Dr. Gage Paine UTSA is a member of the Southland Conference and San Antonio's only NCAA Division I institution. The university sponsors 16 sports, fielding teams in baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's golf, men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field, women's soccer, softball, men's and women's tennis and women's volleyball. Athletics also sponsors cheer and dance squads. In 2008, UTSA won the Southland Conference Commissioner's Cup as the league's top overall athletics program and captured its second Men's All-Sports Trophy in the past three years. Athletics Director Lynn Hickey is entering her second year on the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee, one of the most prestigious appointments in all of intercollegiate athletics. UTSA Athletics teams have qualified for more than 30 NCAA championship events since the department's inception in 1981:

Not only are the teams performing well on the playing field, but the student-athletes are performing well in the classroom. UTSA has had 14 ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, more than 30 academic all-district honorees and 15 Southland Conference Student-Athletes of the Year. During the 2007-08 academic year, 95 student-athletes were named to the Southland Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll (3.0 gpa) and 14 were selected to the league’s all-academic team. UTSA has served as host institution for 11 NCAA Championship events during the past 12 years.
UTSA will host the 2010 Women’s Final Four at the Alamodome and San Antonio is a finalist to host future NCAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball events in the years 2012-16, with those announcements coming in Fall 2008. For the latest information on UTSA Athletics, please visit http://goUTSA.com.
