Read through the following descriptions and choose which volunteer opportunities
best suit your interests. Your name will be added to the volunteer pool
for the areas you have identified. For events, we will contact you prior
to the specific activity to request your participation. For other areas,
you may be asked for additional information and to complete a selection
process.

ALUMNI GALA
The Alumni Gala is the major scholarship fundraiser for the fall. Volunteers
help secure silent auction donations and assist with decorations, set-up
and teardown. The Gala is usually held late summer or early fall.
BIRDFEEDERS
Host a dinner in your home for a group of 8–12 current students interested
in pursuing a career in your profession or with the same academic
interests. Dates are coordinated with your
schedule.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS*
Serve in a leadership role on the Alumni Association Board of Directors.
Board members are selected by application each spring.
CAREER CONNECTIONS
Be a panel member to discuss career options with students with your same
major or who are interested in your career field. Each presentation concentrates
on a different major.
CAREER MENTORING
Provide one-on-one advice and guidance to current undergraduate and graduate
students, assist with job placement or provide an internship opportunity.
Students are matched with potential alumni mentors and provided contact
information to follow up with them directly.
COMMENCEMENT CEREMONIES
Alumni assist graduates as they assemble for commencement and serve as
hosts during the receptions for graduates and their guests after each
ceremony. Commencement ceremonies are held every May and December.
DIPLOMA DASH®
The DIPLOMA DASH® is the major fundraiser for the spring. Volunteers help
with participant packets, registration, set-up and teardown. The Diploma
Dash is held every February.
HOMECOMING
Celebrate all the best of UTSA alumni with week-long activities for the
whole family. Held in late winter to watch the Roadrunners beat the
competition in the men's basketball challenge. Events on both campuses.
REGIONAL PLANNING*
Help us reach out to those in areas with large concentrations of alumni.
Regional contacts and planning groups facilitate communication, plan local
alumni events and coordinate volunteers to recruit at local high schools.
STUDENT RECRUITMENT
Assist the Admissions Office recruit students during high school College
Nights held in your area. Volunteers staff a recruitment table to answer
general questions and distribute literature about UTSA.
TEXAS FOLKLIFE FESTIVAL
Assist in our beer booth at the UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures’ Texas
Folklife Festival. Proceeds from the booth support student scholarships.
The Texas Folklife Festival is held every June.
UNIVERSITY COMMITTEES
From time to time, alumni representation is sought on various university
committees and advisory groups. Selection is based on the specific needs
of the committee.
