Welcome to Washington DC, UTSA Alumni!

Washington, D.C. is widely recognized as one of the most vibrant cosmopolitan cities in the world, offering a diverse array of professions (private, public, and non-profit), history, cultures, and extra-curricular activities. Students or graduates who work in the nation's capital will enrich their college education with a unique opportunity to see first-hand how different interests come together.

For either a summer or a semester, a student can intern in a governmental office, a public policy center, non-governmental agency, research organization, lobbying group or private company. UTSA students from all academic disciplines are encouraged to participate.

Student Internships

Do you want to be a step ahead of the majority of students by the time you graduate? Are you not sure whether you are in the field of study you really want to be in when you graduate? Do you want to explore whether working outside of Texas is for you?

Each summer, an estimated 50,000 students from around the country, including hundreds of fellow students from Texas universities, descend upon Washington, D.C. to take on internships. Fewer decide to work in DC during the Fall and Spring semesters.

Working as a summer intern can be an invaluable learning experience by:

  • Gaining practical experience in the real world

  • Being exposed to current issues that relate to a specific field of interest

  • Improving your work credentials and strengthening your resume

  • Gaining an advantage over others in the job market requires experience

  • Surrounding yourself with a network of professionals
