1604 Campus parking lot 2 closes for garage constructionParking lot 2 at the UTSA 1604 Campus will be closed to faculty, staff and students from Oct. 9, 2004, to July 2005. The lot is east of Fred Cook Drive and north of the Humanities and Social Sciences Building on the 1604 Campus. The lot closure is necessary for construction of a parking garage that is expected to provide triple the spaces currently available in lot 2. University Advancement, H-E-B team up for Women's WalkThe Office of University Advancement, in partnership with H-E-B, is selling H-E-B gift cards in support of the 17th annual Women's Walk. Three percent of the value of each gift card bought from University Advancement will benefit the event. Cards are being sold in increments of $20, $50 and $100, and can be used at H-E-B for gas, groceries, photo lab services and prescriptions. Checks are preferred and should be made out to UTSA. Scholarship fund-raiser is Oct. 23 at Floore's Country StoreDominion Rotary Club and Time Warner present the 2004 Roadrunner Roundup Concert at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 23 at Floore's Country Store, 14464 Bandera Road, Helotes. Proceeds support UTSA scholarships for the College of Public Policy and women’s athletics. A silent auction is set for 7:30-8:30 p.m. with country rock by Jackson Parten at 8 p.m. and acoustic guitarist Monte Montgomery at 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 and are available at Floore's. Compliance training rate is 97 percent, faculty to complete October refresherThanks to all who completed their compliance training on the Training Post -- 97 percent have completed the online training. Supervisors can review the status of their areas through at https://compliance.utsa.edu -- click on Report by Group. Faculty must complete their refresher compliance training on the Training Post in October. There are new modules this year for adjunct faculty. New per diem rates effective Oct. 1Effective Oct. 1, a new per diem rate schedule was initiated. The rate schedule is applicable only to out-of-state locations within the 48 contiguous states, while state employees who travel to Alaska, Hawaii, a U.S. possession or a foreign country must be reimbursed according to guidelines in the General Appropriations Act. Faculty and staff may add a new individual address to the e-mail notification list or update existing e-mail information online at http://www.window.state.tx.us/fm/notices/nsaform.html. UTSA Alumni Association to sponsor spring Euro-tripThe UTSA Alumni Association has scheduled an eight-day trip, "Fabulous London and Paris." The tour will depart March 17, 2005 from San Antonio. The itinerary includes Buckingham Palace, Tower of London, Big Ben, a London theater performance, Eurostar Train, an Eiffel Tower dinner, a Seine River cruise and a Parisian cabaret dinner show. An informational meeting is from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14 in the John Peace Library Building Assembly Room (4.03.08). Research development office offers workshopsThe Office of Research Development will present a series of workshops on the San Antonio Area Foundation (SAAF) grants cycle for 2005. Workshops will provide an overview of the SAAF Web site contents and a demonstration of the application process. Faculty interested in applying to SAFF are encouraged to attend. Workshops at the 1604 Campus are: 10-ll:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11 in the University Center Mesquite Room (2.01.24) and 2:30-4 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 12 in the University Center Oak Room (2.01.20). Toastmasters International offers leadership programsToastmasters International is an organization that provides opportunities to enhance communication and leadership skills and is open to all faculty, staff and students. UTSA Toastmasters at meets from noon to 1 p.m. every Friday at both the Business Building Room 3.04.06, 1604 Campus and in Frio Street Building Room 2.506, Downtown Campus. Besides speaking, staff and faculty have the opportunity to serve as toastmaster, topicsmaster, evaluator and general evaluator. Health Services thanks UTSA for blood drive successHealth Services thanks those who contributed financial support to the Week of Welcome blood drive. The drive was highly successful and was able to reach out to hundreds of students by providing health information, giveaways and entertainment. UTSA students and staff made a difference for the San Antonio community. The August 25-26 blood drive netted 330 donors who donated 222 units of greatly needed blood. Additionally, 163 students and staff signed up to donate bone marrow. The South Texas Blood and Tissue Center is appreciative of the efforts and looks forward to continued UTSA support. Transfer-student organization seeks faculty assistanceThe Office of Transitional Student Advisement Services recently had 79 students express an interest in forming a transfer-student organization at UTSA and seeks faculty members to share the adviser responsibilities.
