Blood drive, marrow registration are Oct. 24-25The Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity will host a blood drive and marrow registration 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 24-25 in front of the University Center, 1604 Campus. Donating blood saves lives. There is a blood shortage because of Hurricane Katrina, so now is an important time to donate. Please bring a photo ID. More information: Alicia Cortez, 393-1827
Mailroom remains in operation during renovationThe mailroom at the 1604 Campus is being renovated and expanded. Mail can be picked up as usual during the construction work, which will last two to three weeks. More information: Edward Pallazola, Mail Services, 458-5948
JPL alarm system to be tested Wednesday nightThe Office of Facilities Planning and Development will conduct final certification of the new fire alarm system in the John Peace Library Building, 1604 Campus, beginning 10 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 26 and lasting until 6 a.m. During this period, alarms, sirens and strobe lights will be turned on intermittently as part of the routine testing. A UTSA Police Department representative will be available to provide access and security for the JPL Building. Best Fest is Friday, Oct. 28The Campus Activities Board and Office of Student Activities will host Best Fest from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 28 at Sombrilla Plaza, 1604 Campus. Best Fest is a traditional festival at UTSA where student organizations set up booths to sell food and products, and provide games. During the event, the popular band Fantasma will perform. Beginning this year, amplified music at Sombrilla Plaza is banned during classes with the exceptions of Best Fest, Homecoming and FiestaUTSA. Surplus office changes computer turn-in procedureWhen turning in computers to the surplus office, it is no longer required for departments to erase the hard drives. Surplus will destroy all computer hard drive data as required by the State Comptroller's Office. Use Surplus Property Turn-In Form 100 to remove equipment from your unit code following pick-up. Because accuracy and legibility on the form are critical, information on the form must be typed, not handwritten. Walk For Women's Athletics is Saturday, Oct. 29The 18th annual State Farm/UTSA Walk For Women's Athletics Scholarships is Saturday, Oct. 29 at UTSA's 1604 Campus with proceeds benefiting the women's athletic scholarship fund at San Antonio's only NCAA Division I university. An event for all ages and fitness levels, the day begins with registration at 9 a.m. in the UTSA Convocation Center. The walk begins at 10 a.m., followed by an awards brunch. Participants paying $25 will receive a free T-shirt, brunch and a chance to win door prizes. More information: Laura Baker, 458-4182
ITC hosts yoga classes each Tuesday eveningThe Institute of Texan Cultures hosts yoga classes every Tuesday night from 5:20 to 6:20 p.m. Professional yoga instructor Shelley Henderson provides Hatha Yoga instruction for all skill levels.
