UTSA observes Law Enforcement Appreciation WeekIn recognition of Law Enforcement Appreciation Week, May 8-15, UTSA will salute the 48 officers in the UTSA Police Department. Events include UTSA Police Department tours at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., May 8-9 and a wreath and flag ceremony with honor guard and university officials at the 1604 Campus flag poles at 3 p.m., May 15. Free Employee Assistance Program provides counselingThe Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides free, confidential and professional assistance to help employees and their families resolve personal concerns. To schedule an appointment, contact the EAP at (210) 299-2400. An EAP counselor is available at the 1604 Campus in Multidisciplinary Studies Building Room 2.02.46A, every Tuesday from 1 to 5 p.m., and at the Downtown Campus in Frio Street Building Room 4.548, every Thursday from 1 to 5 p.m. Benefits-eligible UTSA employees and their dependents receive up to eight counseling sessions per year with services available at convenient off-campus locations. Publications, Web services move to Downtown CampusThe offices of Publications and Web and Multimedia Services, both part of University Communications have moved to the Downtown Campus. Both offices are now located in the Monterey Building Room 2.270. Staff telephone numbers for these two departments have changed. Report maintenance problems to Facilities Work ControlWhether you need an adjustment to the thermostat, a light bulb replacement, or faucet repair, call Facilities Work Control. At the 1604 Campus, call 458-4262 or e-mail "Work Control." At the Downtown Campus, call 458-2845 or e-mail "DTC Work Control." Both urgent and minor maintenance problems should be reported. The trouble-call system ensures that maintenance, custodial, utilities and grounds problems are handled quickly and efficiently. Most requests are immediately assigned via radio. On receipt of a request, a work order number will be issued for tracking purposes. For work control services, including special events, renovations, moves and telephone service, download the required UTSA Facilities Work Request form in Outlook Public Folders/UTSA Forms. For special event set-ups, work requests are required 10 days in advance of the event. More information: Facilities Services
CPI seeks applications for mental-health grantsUTSA's South Texas Initiative for Mental Health Research (STIMHR) is accepting applications for its annual Summer Faculty Research Awards Program from UTSA faculty interested in mental-health research. The application deadline is 5 p.m., Friday, May 12. The award program helps faculty develop competitive grant proposals to advance research programs. Three awards are made each summer. Alumni Association hosts 'Mozart’s Christmas' trip in NovemberThe UTSA Alumni Association will sponsor an eight-day trip, "Mozart’s Christmas," departing Nov. 26 from San Antonio. The itinerary includes Salzburg, Linz, Vienna, Schoenbrunn Palace, Grinzing Evening, Prague and Christmas markets. The trip is $2,099 per person, double occupancy, and includes round-trip airfare from San Antonio, cancellation waiver and insurance, hotel transfers, and departure taxes and fees. An interest meeting is 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, May 10 in John Peace Library Building Room 4.03.08. Alumni, faculty and staff are invited to hear the exciting details.
