UTSA hosts Dec. 18-19 grant training seminar

Robert Gracy, UTSA vice president for research, will host a two-day grant training seminar, "Office of Sponsored Programs Administration: From Proposals to Closeout and Everything in Between," from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday, Dec. 18 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 19 in Main Building Room 0.212, 1604 Campus. The seminar includes a video simulcast to Frio Street Building Room 2.532, Downtown Campus. The seminar is free and open to the UTSA community, but registration is required with a Dec. 11 deadline. Research development office renamed sponsored programs

The UTSA Office of Research Development has been renamed the Office of Sponsored Programs. Noe Saldana, director of research development, was named interim director of sponsored programs while a search is conducted for the director position. Effective January 2007, all non-accounting post-award functions will be transferred from the Office of Grants and Contracts Administration to the Office of Sponsored Programs. The Office of Grants and Contracts Financial Services will continue to prepare financial reports, draw federal funds and handle billings for sponsors.

HOP communication policies are updated

Three policies have been updated in the UTSA Handbook of Operating Procedures (HOP): 2.33 "Faculty Proficiency in English" Section C., 4.16 "Communications with the State Legislature and Other State Agencies or Officials" and 9.9 "University Posting of Materials," a Regents' Rules and Regulations update. Posting regulations have been updated to add additional permitted posting areas. Periodic Updates to the HOP online will be announced in @UTSA. Access the HOP online.

Construction work: Bauerle, Key road work; MS fire alarm upgrade

  • James Bauerle and Rhoderick Key roads will be closed through Wednesday, Dec. 6 to complete curb construction and paving at James Bauerle Road and parking lot 8 and an island modification at Rhoderick Key Road and parking lot 8 at the James Bauerle Road intersection. Detour signs are posted.
  • In the Multidisciplinary Studies Building on the 1604 Campus, a fire alarm system upgrade will be in progress until March 2007. The installation of small speakers in ceilings throughout the building is being done between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Mailroom reminders: Skeleton days, addresses, forwarding

  • The mailrooms at the 1604 and Downtown campuses will be open on skeleton-crew days, Dec 27-29. Also, the courier will make the usual rounds on those days.
  • If you have subscriptions or other mail addressed to the old UTSA address, it will be returned to sender as of April 3, 2007. Correct the addresses from "6900 N. Loop 1604 W." to "One UTSA Circle," or you may lose important mail.
  • Mail received in your department for someone no longer with the university must be forwarded or returned to the sender, except for bulk mail. Throwing away mail addressed to someone else is a federal offense.

Central receiving changes procedure

To ensure that all e-mail requests for receiving reports are processed in a timely manner, there is a new procedure. E-mail requests for receiving reports to "Central Receiving Warehouse" rather than to a particular staff member.
