ITC's Diana H. Smith retires after 30 years of serviceDiana H. Smith, Texas Folklife Festival program coordinator at UTSA's Institute of Texan Cultures, retired Jan. 31 after more than 30 years of service. "Diana Smith has been an invaluable asset to the Institute of Texan Cultures and the Texas Folklife Festival," said JoAnn Andera, Texas Folklife Festival director. "Her cheerful spirit and kind heart have made countless friends for ITC and the festival. The festival would not be where it is today if it were not for her influence and hard work. UTSA hosts 'Gospel Explosion' concert Feb. 2As part of Black History Month, UTSA will host "Gospel Explosion," a concert by three local gospel choirs, at 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 2 in the University Center Retama Auditorium (2.02.02) on the 1604 Campus. Free and open to the public, the concert will feature the St. Paul United Methodist Church Men's Choir, the Students in Christ Youth Center Choir and Praise Dancers, and the UTSA Victory in Praise Gospel Choir, a registered student organization. UTSA competes in national RecycleManiaUTSA is building on its successful recycling program by entering a nationwide competition, RecycleMania. Colleges and universities across the nation will compete through April 9 to collect the most recyclables for top honors in the Per Capita Classic. Managed by the Office of Environmental Health, Safety and Risk Management, Recyclemania is an opportunity for the UTSA community to demonstrate stewardship of our environment while helping to win the competition by recycling paper, newspaper, cardboard, plastics, glass and aluminum cans.
