JPL fiscal services is closed for remodeling through March 16The Office of Fiscal Services in the John Peace Library Building, 1604 Campus, will be closed through March 16 for remodeling of the cashier stations. During the remodeling, student, faculty and staff transactions can be processed at the other fiscal services locations in Multidisciplinary Studies Building Room 1.02.38 (1604 Campus) and Frio Street Building Room 1.508 (Downtown Campus). Budget office offers mandatory budget-prep classesAll departments will use the electronic BDL document in the Define information system to create the 2007-2008 budget. Mandatory training classes will provide pertinent budget information, a budget calendar for completing and submitting budgets for the next fiscal year, and electronic BDL training for first-time preparers. Every department responsible for budget preparation must send at least one representative to the classes. Part I Budget Overview will cover budget guidelines and business processes, and a budget calendar will be distributed. Part II BDL Preparation will provide hands-on training to prepare the Define document (BDL) for first-time users or those needing a refresher class. Judges needed for March 22 Gray Matters debateJudges from all academic disciplines are needed for the Gray Matters Debate, 6-9 p.m., Thursday, March 22 in the University Center Retama Auditorium (2.02.02), 1604 Campus. Sponsored by the UTSA Honors Alliance, the debate offers area college and high school students the opportunity to show off their talents in a debate geared to developing critical thinking skills, writing and presentation skills. The debate question this year is "Safety or Freedom: Which is more valuable to society?" For four minutes, each debater will discuss a position essay he or she has written. UTSA community invited to March 29 vendor fairThe UTSA Department of Purchasing and Distribution Services will host a vendor fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday, March 29 at the Convocation Center, 1604 Campus. Open to the UTSA community, the event is an opportunity to meet vendors and learn about products and services. Door prizes will be drawn throughout the event. Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure is March 31The UTSA Department of Campus Recreation invites UTSA students, faculty, staff and alumni to walk or run in San Antonio's largest 5K event, the Susan G. Komen San Antonio Race for the Cure, Saturday, March 31. With an entry fee of $25, the race benefits breast cancer research. Walkers and runners who sign up by noon, Tuesday, March 20 will receive a UTSA Day of the Race t-shirt compliments of Campus Rec. Register at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Web site. UTSA launches civic participation programUTSA launched its component of the UT Service and Civic Participation Program, as part of the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation. The program is a way for individual volunteer efforts to be recognized, along with the collective community impact of UTSA and the UT System. Adults logging 100, 250 and 500 hours of volunteer service in a 12-month period will be eligible for bronze, silver and gold award levels with lapel pins and personalized letters of thanks from the president. President Ricardo Romo encourages UTSA students, faculty and staff to register their service hours at the UT System President's Service Awards Web site.
